Bryophytus

Recommended music: Ozzy Osbourne – Time After Time

Before heading into the weekend, this #FourHorsemenFriday, let’s take a look at the Mythic Legions Bryophytus!

The official word on Bryophytus from his Mythic Legions bio states that he is a Lichen Orc and a protector of a mysterious region called the Swale. He can also absorb and redirect the power of the plant life around him, but I’m not really sure what good that power is. 😄If his appearance and abilities sound familiar, you may have figured out he is a tribute to Moss Man: Heroic spy & master of camouflage!

The figure, along with Mephitor, was included in the Mythic Legions: All-Stars wave 4 and made their debut at the final Power-Con in Anaheim in 2021. Bryophytus is the Four Horsemen’s “unofficial” nod to Moss Man and part of their ongoing line of Masters of the Universe tribute figures.

The name appears to be based on Bryophytes, which are plants that lack the specialized tissues found in vascular plants, which are used for transporting water and nutrients. This group of plants includes hornworts, liverworts, and most notably, mosses.

He comes with the standard orc-based head, as well as the head originally used for the bearded orc, Vorthogg. For accessories, he comes with a dagger, a dwarf mace, a knife with a sheath, and a magic staff with an orb topper. The accessories and optional shoulder armor are painted in a natural wooden brown color. The body is flocked in a unique moss-like covering to really make him represent the vintage Masters of the Universe Moss Man action figure. While I’ve seen some collectors remove the flocking to just get an olive-green orc, I’ve gotten quite used to the fuzziness of this character over the past 40 years! 😜
