From the Archives: Music From The Films Of James Bond

Recommended music:

Today, from the Bond on Vinyl archives, we’re listening to music from ALL of the EON Productions James Bond films through Skyfall!

While the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra was established in 1995 and has produced many classical and film music recordings, working with major record labels and international film studios, the CITY OF Prague Philharmonic Orchestra dates to the 1940s, just after World War II. This orchestra plays more than 250 recording sessions a year, making it one of the most recorded orchestras in the world. The orchestra is well known for recording critically acclaimed reconstructions of the original scores for classical Hollywood movies, video game soundtracks, and original music for television scores and new film scores.

This two-disc set is limited to five hundred golden copies and is the first time a record has been put out, trying to collect the main theme of all current Bond themes since back in the vinyl format’s heyday in 1982. So, if you want a vinyl album that includes the first 20 years of Bond as well as Octopussy through Skyfall, this is the one for you.

This album was delayed a few times at the beginning of 2020 as I thought they were waiting to include Spectre and No Time To Die… but they did not end up adding the latest two films in this set, keeping it to just the first twenty-four* films.

This recording is all instrumental, other than vocal tracks for From Russia With Love and Skyfall, with talented artists covering Matt Munro and Adele. Unique to this release is that the title track for On Her Majesty’s Secret Service is replaced with ‘We Have All the Time in the World’, and ‘A View to a Kill’ is replaced with a medley of songs from the film instead of the leitmotif that ties into Duran Duran’s main movie theme. This track is followed up by the ‘End Title’ music from The Living Daylights, also not covering A-ha’s main theme. These song choices, along with the inclusion of the Non EON Productions Bond ‘Never Say Never Again’ right where it should be chronologically, make for an outstanding playlist.
