Recommended music: Blue Milk Drinker – The Star Wars Holiday Special Song
For this #StarWarsSaturday post from the archives, we’re NOT talking about The Phantom Menace. Don’t worry, TPM will be back soon enough, but this post is all about The Star Wars Holiday Special! So, for this Wookiee Life Day [11/17, not actually today], we’re taking a look at this Star Wars Celebration IV luggage tag!
As the Star Wars brand celebrated its 30th anniversary back in 2007, new merchandise featured all aspects of the franchise (including the Holiday Special) for the fourth Star Wars Celebration convention, held in Los Angeles for the first time. Not only was Holiday Special merchandise still extremely rare at this point, but I haven’t seen this particular photo used on any other products.
What makes this a Holiday Special photo and not an A New Hope photo? Well, the costumes and set are the ones featured on the small screen in November 1978, including the Cantina Band being on a short stage, and not just in an empty alcove as seen in Episode IV. My favorite thing about this photo is that the Ponda Baba actor, Rick Wagner (the character was still called Walrus Man at the time), appears to have removed the costume head and is covering his face with the costume’s still intact flipper hands. 😄
HAPPY LIFE DAY!! [Again, it’s 11/17]
