Recommended Music: Thomas Newman – Spectre Suite
On this #WhateverWednesday, we’re celebrating tomorrow’s 10th anniversary of Spectre. So, today, we’re taking a look at the Spectre Soundtrack CD.
No, I’m not about to start a new “James Bond on CD” series. Just exploring the world of Bond music on one format is probably enough. To be honest, I was planning on sharing my Spectre: The Board Game (which can still be picked up for a pretty reasonable price: https://amzn.to/4i2GM9P), however, I am traveling for work, and forgot to take pictures of the game before I left.😣
Fortunately, I do happen to have this CD with me, which is helpful backup entertainment when I’m in an area with poor cell reception and I don’t have a podcast loaded. 😄
The official version of the Original Motion Picture Soundtrack was released on compact disc on the same day as the film’s November theatrical release. It contains the same 26 tracks that would later be included in the 2-LP version on vinyl, including interpolations of the ‘James Bond Theme’ and an instrumental version of ‘Writing’s On The Wall.’ That means the Sam Smith title track is also missing from this CD.

Composer Thomas Newman was brought back for Spectre following the success of his score for Skyfall, and in July 2015, Spectre director Sam Mendes announced the film would contain over 100 minutes of music. Unfortunately, this full single-disc release holds just 79 minutes of music, as you’ll have to seek out an unofficial release to hear any more of Thomas Newman’s exciting score.
