On this final #TurtleTuesday post from the archives, we’re taking a look at the NECA Toys Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Jersey Red!
Jersey Red is a lesser-known character from the 1987 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon. She first showed up in season three’s “The Gang’s All Here” and made a brief return in the season five episode “Once Upon a Time Machine.” This episode features April O’Neil going undercover with a gang, and Michelangelo eating a tainted chocolate-chip cookie that temporarily turns him human.
The episode may not have been the most memorable outside of the time travel element, but it did introduce new members to Lugnut’s gang after Bebop and Rocksteady left in season one. The episode marked the last appearance of Lugnut’s gang and was the final time we saw Hokum Hare in the series. NECA released Jersey Red in a two-pack with Grunt, who appeared in season one. Unlike other punk figures from the cartoon, Jersey Red was never mutated, so there’s no alternate mutant form. The figure’s sculpt and paint match her animated look, and the set comes with three sets of hands, a laser, and a can of retro-mutagen.
