Rasputin the Mad Frog (Cartoon)

Recommended music: Boney M. – Rasputin

Hey everyone, we’re back with the last #TurtleTuesday post of the year. Tonight, let’s check out the NECA Toys Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Rasputin!

Rasputin the Mad Frog was not included among the two frogs released in the original Playmates TMNT toy line. However, NECA has successfully recreated this character as an action figure based on his appearance in the 1987 animated series. The figure features the “punk frog” design from the season two episode “Invasion of the Punk Frogs” and the season three episode “Leatherhead: Terror of the Swamp.”

If you don’t remember, this is the story where Shredder goes to the Okefenokee swamp in Florida dressed like someone from ‘Miami Vice’ and names some mutated frogs after famous villains (like Rasputin the Mad Monk), then trains them to fight and commit crimes. Later, Rasputin and the other frogs help the turtles confront Leatherhead, the mutant alligator, and drive him off after a fight in which Shredder falls into the Fountain of Youth and turns into a baby. 😄

The Mad Frog came in a 2-pack with Genghis Frog and, like the other figures in the line, features around 20 points of articulation and a number of accessories. These include a disguise, an additional head and hands, a mutant trap, a small pre-transformation frog, a Turtle-com, and his distinctive bow and arrows in a quiver, including a trick arrow. While it doesn’t actually work like a flash grenade as seen in the cartoon, the figure is a lot of fun.
