For this final #StarWarsSaturday of the year, we’re finally back outside Echo Base during The Empire Strikes Back. From the Hasbro Star Wars: Shadow Of The Dark Side line, it’s another Hoth Rebel Trooper!
Rebel pilots and gunners are in their ships, and other troopers are ready at their battle stations for the ground assault. The shield is open, and the ion cannon has fired. While most pilots and background characters inside Echo Base were played by English and American actors with few lines, many of the Rebel Soldiers in the trenches of the Hoth battlefield were actually members of the Norwegian Red Cross. George Lucas thanked them by making a large donation to the organization.
This unnamed Rebel Trooper was included in Hasbro’s Defense of Hoth 3-Pack, which also featured an anti-vehicle cannon, a laser tower, K-3PO, and an additional Rebel Trooper. The set was a great value when it came out, since the Shadow of the Dark Side line had many repacks and launched around the same time as The Vintage Collection in fall 2010.
This figure significantly improves upon the 2004 Saga Collection Hoth Trooper with updated joints and a soft-goods skirt piece, offering 14 points of articulation so you can pose him easily on the Hoth landscape. He comes with a blaster pistol, a removable hat with attached goggles and scarf, and a survival backpack. While the body is reused from the 2009 Hoth Rebel Trooper in The Legacy Collection, the new head sculpt (without facial hair) and the scarf-wrapped hat help add variety to your Hoth army lineup.
The Empire Strikes Back turned 45 years old this year! I “figure” there’ll be a new Episode V figure to share here for the rest of the year. Happy 45 years of ESB!
