For this #StarWarsSaturday, we’re still on the snowy plains of Hoth during The Empire Strikes Back. From the Hasbro Star Wars: The Legacy Collection, it’s another Hoth Rebel Trooper!
Rebel troopers are equipped with polarized snow goggles, insulated jackets, heavy boots, and white helmets to endure Hoth’s extreme climate. Their weapons are modified to ensure blasters and cannons function reliably in sub-zero temperatures.
During the Battle of Hoth, Rebel pilots and gunners occupy their ships while ground troops prepare for the Imperial assault. After the shield is deactivated and the ion cannon fires, Wedge Antilles and his gunner, Wes Janson, successfully use harpoons and tow cables to disable an AT-AT. Among the chaos, a pair of Rebel Troopers can be observed, with one carrying a standalone cannon.
Hasbro included this unnamed Rebel Trooper with a dark goatee in The Legacy Collection in 2008. This was the debut of this sculpt, with 14 points of articulation. He was first released without the soft-goods skirt piece, but Hasbro quickly corrected this. Another running change was expected since the back of the card shows a head sculpt without the goatee. This change never happened, but that head sculpt was used on four separate releases [see two weeks’ ago post], and the blonde-haired repaint of the goatee head was used twice [see last week’s post].
The trooper comes with a few accessories: his backpack, a blaster, his removable hat, and a two-piece standalone cannon. The figure has a nice, wide stance, and the added articulation really helps him get into position to run that cannon.
The Empire Strikes Back turned 45 last May! I “figure” there will be a new Episode V figure to share here for the rest of the anniversary year. Happy 45 years and counting to TESB!
