Roadkill Rodney (Cartoon)

Recommended music: Rodney Dangerfield – Rappin’ Rodney

Hey everyone, it’s #TurtleTuesday, and we’re close to 100 posts about TMNT toys in my collection. Today, let’s check out the NECA Toys Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Roadkill Rodney!

The name for these robotic unicycles seen in the world of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comes from page 10 of the booklet for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade Game on Nintendo. It calls them “Unicycle soldiers that will zap you senseless.” The design was made for the cartoon and first showed up in the second episode, “Enter the Shredder,” where the nameless robots break into the zoo to kidnap a rhino and a warthog. The rest is TMNT history.

Despite the machine design (character) appearing in the Archie comics, IDW comics, multiple video games, and cartoons in 1987, 2012, and 2018, it never received an action figure until this NECA release. The design and paint job are perfect to match the robots seen in the 1987 cartoon.

Roadkill Rodney came out in a 2-pack with a Triceraton Infantryman in 2020. Though labeled as a singular “Rodney,” the set actually has two robotic unicycles and several accessories to help you tell them apart. You get extra arms, dust clouds to show movement and keep them standing, and three different head caps, including battle damage and a drill head that pops up from dirt mounds. Overall, it’s a fun release and a great army-builder to pack with a nameless Triceraton.
