Rohirrim Soldier

Recommended music: Butthole Surfers – Pepper

Sorry, this is coming a bit late, but here’s your #TolkienThursday post. We’re deep into The Two Towers, and tonight we’re checking out the ToyBiz Lord of the Rings Rohirrim Soldier!

The Rohirrim, also called the Horse-lords, were a horse-riding people who lived in Rohan, a land named after them. Outsiders mostly called them Rohirrim, but they called themselves Eorlingas, after their king Eorl the Young. They were also known as Riders of Rohan and Riders of the Mark. Rohan, north of their ally Gondor, was a key route for travelers going in all directions. Because of this, Rohan’s soldiers, all skilled riders, kept watchful patrols during the dangerous times before the War of the Ring. The Rohirrim stood out for their tall helmets, bright armor, and long ash spears.

The Rohirrim Soldier came out in the second wave of half-moon carded figures for The Two Towers. It doesn’t have an action feature like some of the other soldiers, but the details are really accurate. The figure, labeled as “with Spear attack action,” has a screaming face and good articulation. Because of the stiff cloak, it’s hard to get him to sit on a horse figure. He comes with a removable helmet, a large, detailed shield, a sword, and a big spear. The spear matches the one in the movie and is split in two, so it will fit in the bubble.

This figure isn’t based on any one specific Rider of Rohan, but it could pass for Eomer. It’s perfect for army-building, since the variety of accessories makes it easy to pose a bunch of these figures in your display for Rohan, Helm’s Deep, or Pelennor Fields.
