It’s #TolkienThursday, and this is the 900th post on dalestoys.com! Today, we’re diving into the Battle of Helm’s Deep from The Two Towers and taking a look at the ToyBiz Lord of the Rings Battle Cry Uruk-Hai Warrior!
The Battle of Helm’s Deep marks the height of Saruman’s attack on the Rohirrim. In this fierce siege, Saruman, once a wise wizard but now corrupted, sends a huge army of Uruk-hai against the people of Rohan. These warriors, created in secret under his fortress and armed by Isengard’s forges, march into battle carrying the White Hand, Saruman’s symbol of betrayal.
At Helm’s Deep, Saruman’s army of 10,000 Uruk-hai, including berserkers and sappers (the Orcs carrying the bombs to the wall), attacked the fortress with siege ladders, hooks, and a battering ram. They broke through the Deeping Wall using the explosive “fire of Orthanc” and pushed the Rohirrim into a desperate defense, but were finally defeated when reinforcements arrived.
The Battle Cry Uruk-Hai Warrior “with Electronic Sounds” was released in the fifth and final carded wave of The Two Towers figures. Because of this, it’s the hardest to find and usually costs the most among the orc figures that were sold in stores. The sculpt and articulation are excellent, though the metallic armor paint is a bit lighter than usual, so it’s not really screen accurate except when lightning flashes during the nighttime battle. Instead of an extra feature, pressing the button on the figure’s back makes it roar and lowers its jaw. The head has a rubbery overlay that looks good but can wear out over time. The figure comes with a removable helmet, a detailed torch, and a long pike. Like the Rohirrim Soldier, the spear comes in two pieces to fit in the packaging.
This figure isn’t necessarily based on a specific Uruk-Hai soldier, but I like to imagine it’s the one shouting from a boulder before the battle. Overall, it’s a great army builder with the helmet and spear to make your night battle better, though I wish it were priced more like the other Orc figures in the line.
