The Key Master

“I am Vinz, Vinz Clortho, Keymaster of Gozer…Volguus Zildrohar, Lord of the Sebouillia. Are you the Gatekeeper?”

It’s #FunkoFriday, so let’s have some fun. Today, instead of talking about articulation or paint details, I’m taking a look at the Funko Pop! Vinyl Ghostbusters The Key Master!

Vinz Clortho, the Keymaster of Gozer, is a demonic character and loyal minion of the Destructor in the Ghostbusters series. He starts out as a Terror Dog, tasked with finding the Gatekeeper to bring about the apocalypse.

In the 1984 Ghostbusters film, he possesses the bumbling accountant Louis Tully, played by Rick Moranis, leading to comedic scenes where he wanders around New York City looking for Zuul, his counterpart. When they finally meet on top of the Shandor Building, their ritual opens a portal that lets Gozer enter our world and threaten humanity.

Five years after Mattel released their Ghostbusters Vinz Clortho Keymaster of Gozer figure, and a few years before the Hasbro Plasma Series: Tully’s Terrible Night 2-pack, Funko joined in with their own version. Their figure shows Louis Tully wearing a colander on his head, just like in the movie. It was part of a Walmart exclusive 3-pack with The Gate Keeper and Zuul. This figure is a fun reminder of the scene where Egon scans Louis’s brain with the Aura Video-Analyzer and discovers he’s possessed by Vinz Clortho, who appears on screen as a Terror Dog. The figure appears very complete, holding a slice of pizza. 😄
