Crossbow Uruk-Hai

It’s #TolkienThursday, and today, we’re diving further into the Battle of Helm’s Deep from The Two Towers and checking out the ToyBiz Lord of the Rings Crossbow Uruk-Hai!

The Battle of Helm’s Deep is the peak of Saruman’s attack on the Rohirrim. His army of 10,000 Uruk-hai—the toughest orcs—includes Berserkers, Pikemen, Sappers, Scouts, and Swordsmen. Still, it’s the Crossbowmen who strike first for the White Hand.

The Crossbow Uruk-Hai “with Real Crossbow Firing Action” was released in the first wave of carded figures for The Two Towers. It proved to be an excellent army builder and was brought back quickly, repacked for the first half-moon series wave for Return of the King.

The sculpt features more armor than previous orc releases, and the articulation is good enough for him to hold his crossbow. The weapon is well designed and has a pin on the bottom that fits easily into a hole on the Uruk’s left palm. His right hand acts as the trigger finger. When positioned correctly, pressing the button on the figure’s back fires a bolt. Thankfully, he comes with a handful of projectiles, since you’re more likely to fire one under a table than into a soldier of Rohan, and will need the spares. The removable helmet also makes this one a great army builder, and swapping helmets and weapons with other orc figures adds variety to your troops.
