Rocksteady (Cartoon)

Recommended music: LL COOL J – Mama Said Knock You Out

Hey everyone! It’s #TurtleTuesday, and I’m almost at 100 posts about TMNT toys in my collection. Today, I’m excited to show you another NECA Toys Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Rocksteady!

The first episode of the 1987 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon, “Turtle Tracks,” shows the Foot Clan being stopped by the Turtles, which prompts Shredder to rethink his plans. In the next episode, “Enter the Shredder,” Shredder recruits a street gang and mutates some of them with animals stolen from the zoo to give them powers stronger than the Turtles. Bebop and his friend Rocksteady become a warthog and a rhino, but they never quite match the Turtles’ skills. They became regulars on the show, appearing in 57 of 193 episodes.

NECA released Rocksteady in a two-pack with Bebop during the first year of their TMNT cartoon line in 2019. This set was pretty tough to find in stores, but it was definitely worth it. Sometimes the figures had issues, like stiff hips or other joints, but the detail and how closely they resemble the cartoon characters are great. There’s plenty of movement possible with this figure, including an articulated jaw. The set includes three hand types—gripping, open, and pistol grip—plus blasters, a communicator, and laser rifles. Though Rocksteady’s signature army helmet, which he wore on and off during the early seasons, wasn’t included here. It was added in a later accessory set. If you collect the cartoon line, this figure is a must-have.
