Recommended music: Florence + The Machine – Buckle
Happy Monday! For this #MastersMonday and each Monday in February, I’ll be sharing some fun vintage Masters of the Universe games and novelty items from 1983. Today, I’m checking out a vintage belt featuring He-Man!
I haven’t been able to find out who made this elastic kid’s belt with a magnetic clasp, but it was a popular part of kids’ fashion in the 1980s. Similar belts were sometimes made by jean companies like Lee or Levi, but I haven’t seen that branding on this style of belt. Whoever made these had licenses for dozens of properties, including DC Comics, Pac-Man, Peanuts, Rainbow Brite, The Smurfs, Spider-Man, and, of course, Masters of the Universe!
Even though the plastic overlay has yellowed over the past 40 years, the He-Man and Skeletor artwork on the buckle and the MOTU logo on the elastic band are still easy to see. I really wish these would come back, especially in adult sizes. 😄 Fun stuff!
