It’s #TurtleTuesday, and this is my 100th post about TMNT toys from my collection! Today, let’s take a look at the NECA Toys Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Scrag!
Scrag is a lesser-known but interesting character from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ history. He first appeared in the opening scenes of the classic 1987 cartoon as a skinny, punk-rock member of Bebop and Rocksteady’s street gang. With his mohawk and gritty 80s style, Scrag joined the early fights against the Turtles before Bebop and Rocksteady became mutants.
His name is never used in-universe, but appears in storyboards and a coloring book. The character later appeared in the Archie Comics, the Mutant Turtles manga, and in his mutated form for the IDW comics. That’s right, while most gang members faded away, Scrag stuck around long enough to be transformed into a mutant bat.
NECA made the only Scrag action figure as a bonus in the second wave of TMNT Loot Crate subscription boxes. You could get it only by buying all four loot crates as a bundle, and it shipped in late September 2022. The figure comes with his gang weapons – a pistol and a sledgehammer from the cartoon, as well as a mutant bat head and hands. It is a deep cut figure, but it looks great with the rest of the gang!
