It’s #SomethingElseSunday, and we’re back with another Masters of the Universe collaboration with Eternian Epic Imagery. Our theme this week is “Reflections.”
The vintage Mattel Masters of the Universe toy line peaked in sales in 1986 and completely fell into the bottomless abyss the next year. That meant plans for a wave of new figures in 1988, which relied heavily on repainted parts from existing toys, were never produced. One of these planned figures was a “heroic white ninja” that mostly reused the Ninjor sculpt, but with He-Man’s arms and legs (smooth feet).
For my “Reflections” concept, I wanted to show Ninjor alongside his “heroic” doppleganger. I took inspiration from comic book art of GI Joe characters Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow. The group also shared creative ideas and photos, which you can see below.

“Reflections”
The premise of a secret identity or dual roles, as well as the use of the same figures to represent different characters, has always played a major part in the place we call MOTU/POP.
We have Adam and Adora, and their heroic alter egos, in the series, but then we have Faker, Anti-Eternia He-Man, He-Skeletor, Slime Pit He-Man, and the list of “repaints” and reiterations of the series & films has been reproduced at least six times.
This week, EEI will feature some of those ideas. Check out our latest Collab, REFLECTIONS…
