Elf Archer

It’s #TolkienThursday, and we’re thrilled about the latest Lord of the Rings film news. We’re also back at Helm’s Deep from The Two Towers, taking a look at the ToyBiz Lord of the Rings Elf Archer!

The Galadhrim, elves from Lothlorien, were known for their skill with bows and swords. When war broke out in Middle-earth, Lady Galadriel and Lord Celeborn sent some of these elves to help the people of Rohan. Led by Haldir, they reached Helm’s Deep just in time to help defend it against Saruman’s Uruk-Hai army.

It’s true that the elves weren’t at the Siege of Helm’s Deep in the book, but seeing them join the battle in The Two Towers movie was a great way to watch them in action again, much like in the prologue of Fellowship of the Ring.

ToyBiz released this Elf Archer in a two-pack with the Berserker Uruk-Hai, using the large The Two Towers half-moon packaging. At first, pairing these two nameless army builders seemed like a good idea, but over the past 20 years, it has resulted in many loose Berserker Uruk-Hai figures appearing on the secondary market. If ToyBiz had included an armored Uruk-Hai instead, I think the set would have been much more popular. As for the Archer, he comes with an Elven sword, and his arm moves in a set way because of a button on his back that shoots an arrow from the bow. That sounds like a fun feature, but sadly, the plastic on the bow, sword, and even the arms has become very brittle over time. Any posing at all has caused lots of broken parts on my elves.

Overall, this figure looks great and is a must-have for any Helm’s Deep display. Just be careful—any pose you choose might be their last one.
