Open the gate! “An alliance once existed between Elves and men. Long ago, we fought and died together.” It might be late, but it’s still #TolkienThursday. We’re heading back to Helm’s Deep from The Two Towers to shine the spotlight on a custom ToyBiz Lord of the Rings Elf Archer!
The Galadhrim, elves from Lothlorien, were famous for their skill with bows and swords. When war started in Middle-earth, Lady Galadriel and Lord Celeborn sent some of these elves to help Rohan. Led by Haldir, they arrived at Helm’s Deep just in time to fight Saruman’s Uruk-Hai army.
The elves didn’t actually fight at Helm’s Deep in the book, but seeing them join the battle in The Two Towers movie was a fun way to see them in action again, just like in the prologue of Fellowship of the Ring.
ToyBiz released this Elf Archer in a two-pack with the Berserker Uruk-Hai for The Two Towers line. This might sound familiar since I just talked about this figure last week; however, ToyBiz was really boring with this release, which had no running changes. Certainly, they could have realized that not all elves, even all from Lothlorien, are blonde. Haldir has brown hair, so why not give some of these army builders different hair colors? That’s what this figure is: a simple repaint with darker hair. He left his helmet off for the photo to stand out from the group. 😄
I think he adds some nice variety to my Helm’s Deep display. Unfortunately, painting his hair brown doesn’t fix the fragile arms and weapons I mentioned last week. 😛
