Spikor

Happy Monday, MOTU fans! I hope you had a great weekend. For this #MastersMonday, let’s touch on another 1985 release from the vintage Mattel Masters of the Universe line: Spikor!

So, here is an Evil Warrior I don’t remember owning as a kid, but my friend’s complimentary MOTU collection included Spikor, so the “Untouchable master of evil combat” still joined our battles. Spikor debuted in mid-1985 and reused only He-Man’s legs; everything else was a new design. His right arm looks pretty standard; it just has different detail on the wrist bracer. The left arm is a lot more fun, featuring an extendable trident. It’s funny that in Spikor’s mini-comic and some cartoon episodes, the trident is just a weapon he holds, not something attached like Trap Jaw’s hook hand.

His spiky body was appealing to me as a kid, as it was rubbery enough that he was easy to handle. The original concept for “Spike” had more of a pig snout face and a tail, but the design was much more muted by the time he made it into action figure form. His spiked mace is also a fun weapon, and a welcome addition compared to the smaller clubs he used in the mini-comic.

By fall 1985, Spikor showed up in three episodes of the original Filmation He-Man and the Masters of the Universe cartoon. He’s most memorable in the season two episode ‘The Games.’ In that story, a stronger Spikor competes against Fisto, bending the rules until He-Man gets involved. Spikor also pops up briefly in an episode of She-Ra: Princess of Power and gets a bit more screen time in the He-Man and She-Ra: A Christmas Special.

Since then, Spikor hasn’t appeared much in shows or movies, except for a quick cameo in the first episode of Netflix’s Masters of the Universe: Revelation. He did get another action figure, though. Luckily, Spikor will be back this summer in the Masters of the Universe 2026 live-action film.

In the cardback art by Dave Stevens, you can see that even Battle Armor He-Man feels threatened by this character. In the end, Spikor’s spikes always make him stand out as a favorite for many fans.
