On this #TurtleTuesday, let’s take a look at yet another NECA Toys Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Leonardo!
Today, I am featuring the Musical Mutagen Tour Leonardo figure, which is inspired by the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ Coming Out Of Their Shells studio album and concert tour. The tour was performed throughout the United States from 1990 to 1991 and internationally in 1992. NECA Toys likely could not secure the rights to the original tour name, but the alternative title is equally effective.
This version of Leonardo features a denim jacket, knee pads, and leg warmers. The figure also incorporates a motif resembling the Starfleet Insignia from Star Trek, which appears on his belt, in the shape of his electric guitar, and as a small accessory that attaches decoratively to his eye socket.
Although I did not have the opportunity to attend the tour in person or own the VHS as a child, I did possess the album on cassette, which was widely available at Pizza Hut locations, the tour’s primary sponsor.
