From the Archives: Danny Pennington

Recommended music: Sid Vicious – Search & Destroy

Coming at you this #TurtleTuesday from the archives, we’ve got this NECA Toys Danny Pennington!

I love that we finally got a figure of Danny more than 30 years after he appeared in the 1990 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film. He even comes with his signature Sex Pistols shirt featuring Sid Vicious and his Walkman (“I don’t even know where he got those things”).😄

Unfortunately, the figure was also a LootCrate exclusive, so the wait for the figure was an additional year when it looked like the company was going out of business. Also, the body is based on John Connor from Terminator 2, so the legs are too short. Maybe I’ll modify the legs at some point (I did pick up another NECA figure with slightly longer legs for this project)… Either way, it is a fun addition to the #teenagemutantninjaturtles collection.

Leonardo (Cartoon) Punk Disguise

Recommended music: Corey Hart – Sunglasses At Night

This #TurtleTuesday, we’ve got another NECA Leonardo!

This version of Leo is based on another look of his from the 1987 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated series. NECA specifically made Leo in his “punk disguise” from the season 3 episode “Usagi Yojimbo” in this Turtle 4-pack with fun accessories that showed up in the season one episode “Enter the Shredder.”

The leader of the crew seems to be standing out in front of the rest of the group for some reason. It’s likely due to poor vision from wearing his shades at night time.😛

From the Archives: Crooked Ninja Turtle Gang

Recommended music: Oingo Boing – Imposter

It’s #TurtleTuesday again, and today from the archives we’ve got the NECA Toys Crooked Ninja Turtle Gang!

This pair of turtle imposters from the Crooked Ninja Turtle Gang are right out of the 6th episode of the 1987 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated series. This is the one where Shredder takes over a dojo and has its students go commit crimes while dressed in cheap-looking turtle disguises to besmirch the reputation of the real Ninja Turtles… fun story premise, and a favorite of six-year-old me.😆

From the Archives: Casey Jones (1990 film) Unmasked

Recommended music: George Michael – Careless Whisper

Coming at you this #TurtleTuesday from the archives, we’ve got this NECA Toys Casey Jones!

I was pretty excited to finally get this version of the character featuring the likeness of actor Elias Koteas, more than 30 years after his appearance in the 1990 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film.

The figure came in a 2-pack with April O’Neil and featured accessories from the farmhouse seen in the second half of the film. While Casey’s on-screen romance ended with that first film, it was a fun point in time for the TMNT franchise.

Leonardo (Cartoon)

Recommended music: Bank of Harmony – Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Theme Song

This #TurtleTuesday, we’ve got another NECA Leonardo!

This version of Leo is based on his look in the 1987 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated series. The cel-shading deco style turned out great, even for NECA’s first attempt at a cartoon colored version of the character.

From the Archives: Pizza Monster

Recommended music: Daniel Tidwell – Sewer Surfin’

It’s #TurtleTuesday again, and today from the archives we’ve got this NECA Pizza Monster!

The figure is based on an early episode of the 1987 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated series, and it is ready to wreak havoc for anyone surfing along in the sewers who just wants to enjoy a slice of ‘za!

This creature always reminded me of a xenomorph from the original Alien film, a design that has now been around for 45 years.

From the Archives: Casey Jones (in business suit)

Recommended music: Rush – Working Man

It’s #TurtleTuesday again, and today from the archives we’ve got this NECA Toys Casey Jones!

This version of Casey in a business suit is based on his look from a 1989 episode of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon. In this episode, he applies for an office job at Octopus Inc. while keeping his mask and sports equipment on.

In addition to some office supplies, the figure also comes with a non-masked head, but why would I ever want to use that one?🤪

While I love Star Wars and LOTR memes, there are also many humorous #TMNT memes out there, and I believe this figure’s release 35 years after the episode aired can totally be credited to fans of the meme.
😄👍
