From the Archives: Tecmo Super Bowl 2024

On this #SomethingElseSunday post from the archives, we’re playing some Tecmo Super Bowl 2024

When I originally posted this after last season’s Super Bowl, there was, sadly, no NFL football for the first time in about 24 weeks. Thankfully, I had a fun time playing the 1990s NES classic Tecmo Super Bowl with updated 2024 NFL team rosters all season long and ended up simulating some games for an interesting result.

I also made a custom marquee and bezel for my home arcade. It helps bring this classic football game into the present while keeping its retro vibe.

Thanks to sblueman.com for updating the game every year!

Raphael (Turtles in Time)

Recommended music: Beastie Boys – Body Movin’

On this #TurtleTuesday, let’s take another trip through time with yet another NECA Toys Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Raphael!

This Raph figure is based on his look from the side-scrolling video game “Turtles in Time.” The game was first released as an arcade cabinet in 1991, and was then ported to home consoles like the Super Nintendo (SNES) the following year as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time. The pixelated design on the figure really suits Raph and matches well with NECA’s other video game figures. Each turtle in the series comes in a window box with artwork that matches the Turtles in Time arcade style.

For accessories, Raphael includes a pair of sais, alternate hands, and a red-trimmed hoverboard. The board looks great on the included clear stand, which gives the turtles a bit of elevation when placed in your display. This personal flying vehicle is also very accurate to the design seen in this level, “Sewer Surfin’,” where you take on a missile-firing Rat King. The hoverboard then returns in the futuristic level, “Neon Night Riders,” which is set in the high-tech future of 2020.😄

Michelangelo (Turtles in Time)

Recommended music: Ozzy Osbourne – I Don’t Know

On this #TurtleTuesday, let’s take another trip through time with yet another NECA Toys Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Michelangelo!

This version of Mikey is based on his inclusion in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles side-scrolling video game “Turtles in Time.” The game was first available as an arcade cabinet in 1991, before being ported to the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) the following year and re-branded as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time. The pixelated deco again works well for Michelangelo and all of NECA’s action figures in a video game design. This version of the turtles all came in individual window boxes with artwork in the style of that Turtles in Time arcade cabinet.

For accessories, Mike includes his dual nunchaku bearing a simple paint job, a spinning nunchuck effect, alternate “thumbs-up” hands, and his hoverboard. The board looks great on the included clear stand, allowing the turtles to gain a bit of elevation in your display. This vehicle, for one, also looks very accurate to the design that is seen in this level, “Sewer Surfin,” as well as the futuristic (2020) level “Neon Night Riders.”

Leonardo (Turtles in Time)

Recommended music: Florian Haack – Sewer Surfin (Metal cover)

On this #TurtleTuesday, let’s travel through time with yet another NECA TMNT Leonardo!

This version of Leo is based on his inclusion in the 1991 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles side-scrolling video game “Turtles in Time.” The game was first available in arcades before it was ported to the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) the following year as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time. The pixelated deco again works well for all of NECA’s action figures from the game, which come in individual window boxes with artwork reminiscent of the Turtles in Time arcade cabinet.

For accessories, Leo includes his standard katana swords with a very plain paint job and his hoverboard. The board looks great on the included clear stand, allowing the turtles to float higher in your display. It also looks very accurate to the design that is seen in this level “Sewer Surfin,” as well as the futuristic (2020) level “Neon Night Riders.”

From the Archives: Super Mario Bros

On this #SomethingElseSunday from the archives, we’re celebrating all things Mario with the VS. Super Mario Bros arcade game!

While I was on the road and missed out on celebrating #mar10day this year, this is one of my favorites from the Mario franchise, and one that I most often attempt to do a speed run through.

I think a fun weekend may just be capped off with a rewatch of the Super Mario Bros. film, and then some New Super Mario Bros. Wii, which my kids still enjoy as you work together, but you can also toss other players into danger. Fun times!

From the Archives: Tecmo Super Bowl 2023

While there is no football on this #SomethingElseSunday, let’s take a look back and see how a previous NFL season wrapped up with Tecmo Super Bowl 2023!

It looks like I didn’t save this video for some reason, so the Instagram app version will have to do:

From the Archives: Dig Dug

For the first #WhateverWednesday post (where we take a look at a toy or something different from the other themed days), I shared some of the various ways to play Dig Dug in the home arcade.

Unfortunately, I let go of that stand-alone Dig Dug cabinet last year and switched out some of the other machines. Fortunately, I still have a few ways to play the game at home. Like a real arcade, the setup of the home arcade is never too permanent. I’m thankful for the space and the machines that I do have.

Also, it looks like I put this video together in the Instagram app and I don’t have a separate file, so I’ll just link to that.😄 Creating a video inside of an app and not on a desktop is definitely not for me.
