From the Archives: Anubis

Recommended music: Ludacris – Number One Spot

For this post from the archives, with the first pick in the top action figure releases of 2024… Dale has selected… the Four Horsemen Studios Figura Obscura The Gods of Ancient Egypt Anubis!

This figure was completely unexpected, as the character choice was not on my collecting radar prior to the Four Horsemen dropping it this past spring. Anubis has a nice load-out of different heads, hands, and feet options. It also comes with many other unique accessories. These features helped put Anubis on top this year.

Honorable mention to the Figura Obscura The Gods of Ancient Egypt Bastet figure, who came with an equally impressive contingent of looks and accessories, but the head options for the “mother of cats” all look like the same type of statue to me, putting her just a notch below Anubis.

From the Archives: Ghost of Christmas Past

Recommended music: Nox Arcana – Ghosts of Christmas Past

Happy Halloween! For this post from the archives, we’re floating on with my list of top 10 action figures from 2024. At #4, it’s the Four Horsemen Studios Figura Obscura The Ghost of Christmas Past!

This figure exceeded my expectations and is a great follow-up to the Ghost of Jacob Marley from the year before. She comes with soft goods, four different head/face options, extra arms/hands if you want that sort of thing, and some other great accessories, including a Victorian lamp post, fun stuff!

Honorable mention to the entire Poxxus wave of Mythic Legions figures from Four Horsemen Studios. They would have appeared on this list. However, this spirit scared them away. 😄

From the Archives: Artemyss Silverchord

Recommended music: King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard – The Silver Cord

For this #FourHorsemenFriday post from the archives, we’re sharing a Warrior Queen from the collection. It’s the Mythic Legions Artemyss Silverchord!

The design and color scheme of this faerie elf really caught my eye when it was first introduced and was an easy choice to include in my pre-order. Silverchord came with a unique bow, head sculpt, and wings. She also had cool colors on her quiver, arrows, sword, dagger, and a green cloth skirt. There was a second release of this character in a later wave, but she is definitely not deluxe like this winged version.

From the Archives: The Ghost of Jacob Marley

Recommended music: Dr. Snik – Jingle Bells (Requiem for Jacob Marley)

Before the clock strikes 12, we’ve got another #FourHorsemenFriday post from the archives. Today, we’re also taking a quick look at the Four Horsemen Studios Figura Obscura: The Ghost of Jacob Marley!

If I had picked up this figure on release day, he would have definitely made my top 10 figures of 2023. However, I waited until this year to add this to the collection, and he is amazing! The paint scheme is a ghastly gray with some transparent parts, and the addition of a ton of keys, real metal chains, a safe, and other items weighing him down really brings the figure to life. He also comes with alternate hands, a head, and other fun accessories, which I’ll have to cover in a future post.

Bah humbug! 🤪

From the Archives: Faunus

Recommended music: Lang Lang – Debussy: Clair de Lune

For this #FourHorsemenFriday post from the archives, we’re looking at a powerful warrior in the form of the Mythic Legions Faunus!

This guy can manipulate plants somehow and truly comes off as a fancy Groot with hooves. Faunus has a unique color scheme, a good amount of accessories, and an orange soft goods cape/skirt piece to complete with a magical forest look.

From the Archives: Boreus

Recommended music: Andre Previn – The Nutcracker, Op. 71, Act II: No. 13, Waltz of the Flowers

Behold, another #FourHorsemenFriday post from the archives. Today, we’re also taking a look at the Mythic Legions Boreus!

This mighty steed is the first Mythic Legions horse, featuring a ton of articulation, a large and detailed sculpt, and a swappable wind-blown mane, if you need that sort of thing.

This legendary blue roan stallion reveals himself to honorable warriors in times of need. He has the power of a winter storm, but doesn’t feel like using that power right now, because it’s Friday and he’s ready for a fun weekend.

From the Archives: Duban

Recommended music: Johnny Cash – God’s Gonna Cut You Down

For this #FourHorsemenFriday post from the archives, we’re looking at the very mysterious Mythic Legions Duban!

This mysterious human ranger delivers messages from the bird people to other individuals, has a pet hawk named Vedrfolnir, and can ride a horse in the snow. Besides the figure having some new unique parts, including the head sculpt, the wired and stitched soft goods cape is excellent for posing.

Recommended music: Hawkwind – Master of the Universe

For this #FourHorsemenFriday post from the archives, we’re taking a look at the very elegant Mythic Legions Vedrfolnir!

I really don’t know that this hawk has any kind of an official bio from the Four Horsemen, other than that he belongs to the “hawk master” Duban. So Vedrfolnir’s backstory is up to you, and he is one cool-looking bird.😄

For this #FourHorsemenFriday post from the archives, we’re taking a look at the Mythic Legions Zende Amaanthyr!

While this human spellcaster has an official bio according to The Four Horsemen, I like to think he can travel between different universes and realities… and chose to go to Texas in our world to see the Paul vs. Tyson fight. 😄

Boarrior

Recommended music: Scandal – The Warrior

Don’t be a bore on this #FourHorsemenFriday. Let’s check out the Mythic Legions Boarrior!

Eight years after Boarrior’s character was revealed, I’m reading up on Boarrior’s official Mythic Legions bio. I’m just now realizing Boarrior is a system, not a man. Scratch that, Boarrior are a race, and not just this specific pig man. 😄 However, like hogs, wild boars, and other earthly swine, Boarriors have a preference for filth and muck and will use their thick skulls and large tusks in favor of more practical tools/weapons. Learning this, I really wish The Four Horsemen would include a new Boarrior character in every wave with a new paint scheme.

Boarrior was included in the Advent of Decay Kickstarter wave, which introduced 43 new figures into the line, as well as “2.0” tooling for slimmer characters.

For accessories, he comes with a bone axe, a mace, and a war hammer. His pigtail is removable in case you want to use the body for another species, but why would you? Other base bodies in this scale would make a better option, as he does not come with an alternate head or non-hoofed feet. Like other Mythic Legions, the oversized shoulder armor is removable to give the head with jowls a little more movement. In the end, a cool figure for your display and a fun character to call on to save your bacon. 😜

Recommended music: Oingo Boingo – Dead Man’s Party

For this #FourHorsemenFriday post from the archives, we’re taking a look at the Mythic Legions Vorgus Vermillius!

[At the time of original post] I thought this would be the perfect figure to feature today, as it came out one year ago this weekend at LegionsCon 2023, and the next amazing wave of Mythic Legions was announced today! This skeleton is named after Walter from the Mythic Legions Cabal Facebook group, and this con-exclusive version came with this cool Cabal t-shirt!

Uuwitt

Recommended music: Soulja Boy Tell’em – Crank That

You may be ready for the weekend, but first on this #FourHorsemenFriday, you’ve got to check out the Mythic Legions Uuwitt!

The official Mythic Legions bio for Uuwitt is brief, but it sheds a little light on this orc herbologist. Basically, it boils down to Uuwitt not being as big a scrapper on the battlefield for “the Furious Four” as his overexposure to herbs has dulled his senses just as much as herbs have taken out his enemies.😜

Four Horsemen Studios named the entire group of the Furious Four after the team on the ‘My Wife is Going to Kill Me’ podcast. Uuwitt is specifically named after MWIGTKM podcaster Jeremy Dewitt, a cool dude I met at Power-Con many years ago.

This group of figures was first available in a two-pack at LegionsCon 2022. In February 2023, they were repacked as two single-carded releases from The Four Horsemen site with the extra heads and accessories needed to make each character. Uuwitt comes with his red orc head, seen here, as well as a “Peteorionn” bull head.

For accessories, he comes with a dwarf mace, a dwarf sword, and a magic staff. The Four Horsemen also included booted feet, so Uuwitt doesn’t have to be the only orc in your display sporting hooves.😄 This was a member of the Furious Four that I really wanted for the Mythic Legions display, as orcs have been one of my favorite parts of this line from the beginning. While this one is not going full shaman, he is considering fewer herbs and more armor.

Peteorionn

Recommended music: Rage Against The Machine – Bulls On Parade

Perhaps you’re ready for the weekend? This #FourHorsemenFriday, we’re taking a peek at the Mythic Legions Peteorionn!

The official Mythic Legions bio for Peteorionn is not long, but it gives him a little backstory. As the enforcer of “the Furious Four,” he makes his presence known on the battlefield. Also, he is afraid of fire and will put out all flames in his vicinity.😄

Four Horsemen Studios named the entire group of the Furious Four after the team on the ‘My Wife is Going to Kill Me’ podcast. Peteorionn is specifically named after MWIGTKM podcaster Pete McCarthy.

This group of figures was first available in a two-pack at LegionsCon 2022. In February 2023, they were repacked as two single-carded releases from The Four Horsemen site with the extra heads and accessories needed to make each character. Peteorionn comes with his red bull head, seen here, as well as a “Uuwitt” orc head.

For accessories, he comes with a dwarf mace, a dwarf sword, and a magic staff. Thankfully, the Four Horsemen also included a tail and an additional set of hoof feet, so Peteorionn could be 100% minotaur. This was the member of the Furious Four that I wanted the most for my Mythic Legions display, as the red bull really gave me wings and came in at #4 on my top 10 action figure list of 2023.

From the Archives: Spawn Dark Ages Horse

Recommended music: Johnny Cash – Ghost Riders in the Sky (Live)

So this #FourHorsemenFriday post from the archives, we’re taking a look at the McFarlane Toys Spawn Dark Ages i.23 horse!

This horse is actually from a set where a rather scary-looking skeleton guy rides atop the horse and was released as a deluxe set in the 24th series of the original Spawn toyline. While The Four Horsemen were previously contracted by McFarlane to do design work on this toyline, they actually left following wave 16, not technically doing work on this horse, based on issue 23 of the Spawn Dark Ages comic.

The horse is being included here as during the first five years or so of the Mythic Legions line, I don’t think there were any horses for your figures, so this “Mythic adjacent” horse served as an excellent stand-in steed for Vorgus Vermillius, and still hasn’t given up his place years after horses have been added to the line. He comes adorned with skulls, metal plates, and scary blinkers and is quite the presence in the display.

Pelvicus

Recommended music: Nickelback – Burn It To The Ground

Popping off for a fun weekend? This #FourHorsemenFriday, we’re taking a peek at the Mythic Legions Pelvicus!

The official Mythic Legions bio for Pelvicus is brief, but it has some weird stuff for this backstory. This includes that the skeleton was eventually expelled from “the Furious Four” for misreading magical texts one too many times, but he has since found his place in the order. Also, he maintains his magical powers by regularly stripping down to his bare bones and bathing in a mystical cauldron. I guess he’s a skeleton that likes a long bath.😄

Four Horsemen Studios named the entire group of the Furious Four after the team on the ‘My Wife is Going to Kill Me’ podcast. Pelvicus specifically is named after MWIGTKM podcaster Travis Bolles.

This group of figures was first available in a two-pack at LegionsCon 2022. In February 2023, they came back out as two single-carded releases from The Four Horsemen site with the extra heads and accessories needed to make each character. Pelvicus comes with his red skull head, seen here, as well as a “Bushotee” gladiator helmet.

For accessories, he comes with a very standard shield, spear, and sword. Pelvicus even looks fine without the shiny shoulder pauldrons, but they are needed to hold his tattered cape in place. While there have been many unique skeleton figures released in the Mythic Legions line, this one could work as just a generic army builder.
