From the Archives: Revelation Faker

Recommended music: Manfred Mann – Blinded By The Light

On this #MastersMonday post from the archives, we’ve got the Mattel Masters of the Universe: Revelation Masterverse Faker!

The sneaky design of this Faker from Masters Of The Universe Revelation is definitely a first. For most of the past 40 years, “Faker” He-Man figures were mostly just He-Man figures repainted blue with some different orange armor… not someone who you would mistake for the genuine He-Man. Some releases have even been labeled as Faker, when they are based on the Filmation version which does actually look like He-Man, but with occasionally glowing robotic eyes. This release based on the Netflix series is a good mix of the ideas and captures his appearance when he is morphing in between the two looks to pull a fast one on the Sorceress.

Masters Of The Universe Revolution may no longer be a top animated series on Netflix, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to stop talking about it anytime soon.

Happy Monday! Kicking off this #MastersMonday, we’ve got another 1984 figure from the vintage Mattel Masters of the Universe toy line—it’s Kobra Khan!

Jitsu was among my favorite Evil Warrior figures during the MOTU adventures of my youth. This “Evil master of Snakes” was … I’ll update this post with more text at some point after vacation, but for now, it’s just this picture. 😀

From the Archives: Revelation Beast Man

Recommended music: Bear McCreary – As Goes Eternia

On this #MastersMonday post from the archives, we’ve got the Mattel Masters of the Universe: Revelation Masterverse Beast Man!

This figure features an updated, but familiar design and is still pretty menacing for Duncan here. Just like with the 1987 live-action Beast Man, or the 2002 animated Beast Man, it just takes a moment and then you’ll appreciate the new design for the latest medium.

Masters Of The Universe Revolution may no longer be a top animated series on Netflix, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to stop talking about it anytime soon.

Jitsu

Recommended music: ZaharVips – Way of the Warrior

Happy Monday! Moving ahead this #MastersMonday, we’ve got another 1984 figure from the vintage Mattel Masters of the Universe toy line—it’s Jitsu!

Jitsu was also a figure in the regular rotation during MOTU adventures of my youth. This evil master of martial arts was basically Skeletor’s counterpart to Fisto with his spring-loaded right arm and oversized fist. Now you could have his palm down for a high-five or slapping action, but more than likely, you rotated the hand ninety degrees to demonstrate Jitsu’s signature karate chop.

Also, like Fisto, Jitsu came in a deluxe 2-pack with the evil version of Stridor, Night Stalker. Even if you acquired the two separately, it was always nice to know who is supposed to be riding in the big robotic horse. Jitsu’s inclusion in one lone episode of the Filmation He-Man and the Masters of the Universe animated series didn’t even bother to name-check the character, so his popularity in your arsenal of evil warriors was definitely based on his look and action feature and not a cartoon. ✋

From the Archives: Revelation Teela

Recommended music: Bear McCreary – Teela Joins the Wild Hunt

Also on this #MastersMonday from the archives, we’ve got this Masters of the Universe: Revelation Masterverse Teela!

This Teela figure is based on her design from after the first episode of Masters Of The Universe Revelation when Teela has had her world flipped upside down and starts a new life with a new look.

Masters Of The Universe Revolution may no longer the top animated series on Netflix, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to stop talking about it any time soon.

From the Archives: Revelation Spikor

Recommended music: Fist – Hot Spikes

On this #MastersMonday post from the archives, we’ve got the Mattel Masters of the Universe: Revelation Masterverse Spikor!

This figure retains a pretty classic Spikor design and is still pretty menacing for Fisto here. Masters Of The Universe Revolution may no longer be the top animated series on Netflix, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to stop talking about it anytime soon.

Fisto

Recommended music: Rush – Hand Over Fist

Happy Monday! On this #MastersMonday, we’re still in 1984 mode with another figure from the vintage Mattel Masters of the Universe toy line—it’s Fisto!

Fisto was a figure in frequent use during my childhood MOTU adventures. This heroic hand-to-hand fighter and ally to He-Man featured a spring-loaded right arm (with an oversized fist) that really stepped up the game from previous figures in the line that only had spring-loaded waist action. He also came with a Tri-Klops sword cast in purple that matched his color scheme.

I’m not sure if it was box art, mini-comics, or other memorable Errol McCarthy artwork that made it stick, but everyone seemed to know that the robotic horse Stridor belonged to Fisto (they were offered together in a 2-pack even though Stridor was created by Man-At-Arms in Filmation cannon), and Fisto’s natural enemy was Jitsu (the big handed evil-warrior version of Fisto). ✊🏼

It’s #MastersMonday, and yes, #MastersOfTheUniverseRevolution is no longer the top animated series on Netflix, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to stop talking about it any time soon. Tonight from the archives, we’ve got this Masterverse Battle Cat!
This figure features great articulation so he can convincingly pounce on folks like Beast Man, but keeps the vintage toy idea of a removable saddle & helmet to reveal a great Cringer alternate look underneath.

From the Archives: Skelegod

Recommended music: Bear McCreary – Skeletor, Lord of Destruction

This #MastersMonday, #MastersOfTheUniverseRevolution may no longer be the top animated series on Netflix, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to stop talking about it any time soon. Today from the archives, we’e got the Mattel Masterverse Skelegod!

This figure is a very leveled-up 9″ Skeletor that comes with a Power Sword, transparent green skin, and a battle effect. Fun stuff.

Clawful

Recommended music: T78 – Clawful

Happy Monday! For this #MastersMonday, we’re fully into 1984. Here’s another figure from the vintage Mattel Masters of the Universe toy line—it’s Clawful!

Clawful was another figure I didn’t have as a kid, and honestly, I wasn’t as interested in playing him with from my friend’s collections. I somewhat knew the character due to his inclusion in more than a handful of episodes of the Filmation He-Man animated series, but the animated version looked totally different and somehow didn’t make the connection to the action figure.

The cartoon Clawful head looked more like a dragon or lizard, while this figure’s head reminded me more of a crab. Besides his standard claw hand (something the cartoon version had a pair of), he has an oversized grabbing hand, which at worst could hold his green Grayskull mace, and at best could pinch your friend’s finger.😄

From the Archives: Mer-Man animation cel

For this #WhateverWednesday, I wanted to showcase this Filmation stock cel. I believe it was featured twice in the Masters Of The Universe episode “Teela’s Quest.” I made a video to show just where it shows up.

Again, it seems this video works best with added music from the Instagram app. I downloaded the video back from the website and it was tiny. I guess I really should revisit this artwork with still images instead of video.

Buzz-Off

Recommended music: Rimsky Korsakov – Flight of the Bumblebee

Happy Monday! On this #MastersMonday we’re buzzing to share another figure from the vintage Mattel Masters of the Universe toy line, it’s Buzz-Off!

Buzz-Off was a figure I didn’t have as a kid, but thankfully I still had access to him through my friend’s collections. I was familiar with the character due to his appearance in the Filmation He-Man animated series where he showed up for a handful of episodes in season two. His semi-transparent techno wings were appealing. However, the extra eyes on his helmet seemed strange to me. The new clawed hands being used for a bee man also appeared unusual at the time. 😄

The cardback art above was once again done by Errol McCarthy. There was another version of this art. It was also used for Buzz-Off but was mirrored and missing his axe for some reason. The axe was a repaint of the one available with Castle Grayskull. I’m not sure why it was initially not included in the art.

From the Archives: Revelation Evil-Lyn

Recommended music: Bear McCreary – Evil-Lyn Opens Heaven’s Gate

It’s #MastersMonday, and even though Masters of the Universe: Revolution hasn’t been the top animated TV show on Netflix, for more than a year, I’m going to keep talking about it.

This Masterverse Evil-Lyn figure is the first time the character has had a long-haired alternate head. Lena Headey’s voice acting was excellent in the role, even when the given dialogue was not.

From the Archives: Revelation Moss Man

Recommended music: Bear McCreary – The Power of Grayskull

It’s #MastersMonday, and it’s been just a bit over a year since Masters of the Universe: Revolution was the top animated TV show on Netflix!

This Masterverse Revelation Moss Man is a fun figure with interchangeable hands to help him snag things with his viney appendages. Unfortunately, he does not smell like Pine-Sol like the vintage version of the character.

From the Archives: Revelation Skeletor

Recommended music: Bear McCreary – Skeletor, Lord of Destruction

It’s #MastersMonday, and it’s been about a year since Masters of the Universe: Revolution was the top animated TV show on Netflix.

This Masterverse Revelation Skeletor is a fun figure with a simple soft goods cape, and really fits the look of the character. Also, Mark Hamill nailed the role as the Lord of Destruction!
