Recommended music: The London Theatre Orchestra – Theme from The Shining

Don’t be scared, it’s another #FourHorsemenFriday post from the archives. Today, we’re looking at the Mythic Legions Deluxe Skeleton Legion Builder!

While there are now a lot of color and armor variations of skeletons within the Mythic Legion toy line, this simple skelly does a fine job as a threatening terror.

Purrrplor

Recommended music: Queens of the Stone Age – Villains of Circumstance (live)

Popping up next on this #FourHorsemenFriday, we’re taking a look at the Mythic Legions Purrrplor!

If referring to his official Mythic Legions bio, Purrrplor is a Jaguallian swordsman who was once a scout but is now searching for refuge in the Wasteland following a defeat in battle. That’s a fine story and all, but this figure is New Adventures of Panthor for me! I’m not sure what circumstances brought Panthor to Mythoss, or how he gained the ability to walk on two feet and fight like a human, but he is quite confident in his new body, and even had a cat-like lair constructed in the vein of a familiar mountain in my head canon. 😄

The figure was included in the Wasteland wave of Mythic Legions and debuted at Power-Con the year before the general release. Reusing the Cowarros head from the year before, this was the Four Horsemen’s “unofficial” tribute figure to Panthor, in their ongoing line of Masters of the Universe tribute figures.

He comes with a bone knife, a buster sword, an elf shield, and a bulked-up neck piece. The posable tail can also be removed, and the head can be swapped out for an included purple orc head, but honestly, he has not spent much time sporting an orc appearance in my Mythic Legions display.

Scraping by until the weekend? Take a load off with another #FourHorsemenFriday post from the archives. Today, we’re looking at the Mythic Legions Skapular the Cryptbreaker!

Included in the very first wave of of Mythic Legions figures (the first Kickstarter wave), this mercenary skeleton features a unique look and is part of an affiliation known as the Sons of the Red Star. I wonder where they got that name…

Mythic Legions Custom Skeletor

Recommended music: Midnight Ghost – Lava Mountain

Scooting in for this #FourHorsemenFriday, we’ve got a Mythic Legions custom Skeletor!

According to the official Mythic Legions bio, Keltuss was a mage who combined magic with gladiatorial combat. The figure was included in the Coliseum wave of Mythic Legions and debuted at Power-Con the year before the general release. Paired with Adamonn, this was the Four Horsemen’s “unofficial” tribute figure to Skeletor, another in their ongoing line of Masters of the Universe tribute figures.

However, at some point after that Power-Con, I must have had a lapse in collecting judgment or temporary delirium, as the figure fell out of favor in my mind. I decided I no longer needed a bright blue skeleton figure in my collection, and he was sold off.

Some time passed, the value of Keltuss increased 10 times the original value, and I decided I do, in fact, need a Skeletor tribute in my collection, just not Keltuss. More time passes, and I am able to piece together a body and accessories that fit more with what I had in mind for a Mythic Legions version of Skeletor. I’m not quite sure what the circumstances of his backstory would bring him to this current appearance, but I like the look. 😜👍

Delving into the weekend with another #FourHorsemenFriday post from the archives, it’s the Mythic Legions Deluxe Skeleton Legion Builder!

Yes, I realize the red Pelvicus skull doesn’t match the bone color of the arms. However, I thought it looked cool with that helmet, so I switched it up a bit. Also, the inclusion of a crossbow gives you another display option when wanting to build a skeleton army with these guys.

Adamonn

Recommended music: Barry Adamson – Destination

Adding to the awesome on this #FourHorsemenFriday, we’ve got the Mythic Legions Adamonn!

According to his official Mythic Legions bio, Adamonn hails from the House of the Noble Bear and is a coliseum champion. However, like all tribute figures, that backstory is certainly “unofficial” canon. In my head canon, I believe this guy hails from the House of Randor and is the most powerful man in the universe to the people of Eternia.

Adamonn was included in the Coliseum wave of Mythic Legions. Like Unkann, he made his debut at Power-Con the year before the general release for those of us lucky enough to attend. As the Four Horsemen’s next “unofficial” tribute figure to Masters of the Universe, this is clearly He-Man, and the name is pulled from He-Man’s true identity of Prince Adam.

I love the look of this figure as I pictured this to be He-Man as he looked after having to leave Eternia for some reason (think New Adventures of He-Man, or the 1987 live-action movie). While there is an alternate helmeted head included, this repaint of the Attlus head from the first wave of Mythic Legions is perfect . No longer does Eternia’s champion bear a clean-shaven look; this aged version comes with his hair pulled back, braids, and a heavy beard. The straps resemble He-Man’s typical chest harness, and the wooden shield, which was previously only available in a weapon’s pack, has been repainted to give nostalgia vibes of the vintage Masters of the Universe toy line as well.

Sliding into the weekend with this #FourHorsemenFriday post from the archives, it’s the Mythic Legions Scaphoid!

This skeleton figure features a uniquely painted green & purple deco. At first, you would not think these colors would work well together, but they produce a very cool combination.

Unkann

Recommended music: Anvil – Forged In Fire

Updating you, this #FourHorsemenFriday. We’re taking a look at the Mythic Legions Unkann!

According to Mythic Legions lore, the Legion of Arethyr is an army consisting of the most brutal and savage warriors in Mythoss. Since every army needs a weapon master, that role has fallen to Unkann, the Orc.

In reality, Unkann was a part of a small wave called “Mythic Legions 1.5,” which was simply the first wave following the initial Kickstarter figures and used existing parts repainted from that first group of characters. The nice thing about this figure’s release was being able to pick him up the year before the wave shipped, as he actually made his debut at Power-Con 2016.

Why Power-Con? Well, up until a few years ago, this convention had a major focus as being the premier convention for He-Man and She-Ra, and anything Masters of the Universe. Unkann was The Four Horsemen’s first “unofficial” tribute figure to Masters of the Universe, as this Orc is painted up very similar to the “Master of Weapons” himself, Man-At-Arms! His moniker combines the “U” naming pattern already established in the toy line and rhymes with Man-At-Arms’ official first name, Duncan.

While the pictured shield is a custom that I thought fit well with the figure, Unkann comes armed with a bone knife, a dagger, and a mace, and sports a great look on the shelf with the orange and green combination. Thankfully, the figure was a success, and around a dozen more MOTU tribute figures have joined the line since!

Recommended music: Beastie Boys – Sure Shot

We’ve got the ill communication on this #FourHorsemenFriday post from the archives. It’s the Mythic Legions Ilgarr!

This skeleton figure features a unique painted skull and armor that has an (I forget the best word to describe it) oxidized look, like he has been aging for centuries. He comes with an alternate Viking head, but I really like the aged bone head look in the armor.

Bastet

Recommended music: Visck – Bastet

For this #FourHorsemenFriday, we’re taking a look at the Figura Obscura Bastet!

This cat-headed fertility goddess, officially released as the Figura Obscura, The Gods of Ancient Egypt, Bastet. Her figure from Four Horsemen Studios was an honorable mention for my top 10 action figures of 2024, but I ultimately went with Anubis because I like dogs more than cats. 😄

It was actually nice that the pair was sold together, as I may have passed on this figure, but I’m so glad to have her in hand. Like the accessory and head options for Anubis, Bastet includes a headdress piece that can be removed for additional looks. The four options for the cat faces span from a very realistic style to more of a “Mother of Cats” statuesque look.

She also comes with six(!) sets of hands for the ideal look, a basket, cat and human feet, a ceremonial mask, a club, three jars, a staff, and a small statue of Bastet, which I did remember to include. Oh hey, there’s the Anubis shrine I forgot to picture last week.😄

Recommended music: Alice In Chains – Rotten Apple

First up on this #FourHorsemenFriday from the archives, we’ve got the Mythic Legions Malleus!

Released in the first (Kickstarter) wave of Mythic Legions, Malleus may, at first, appear to be just a nicer painted Skeleton Legion Builder, armed with a sword and a pair of battle axes. However, this magnificent skeleton features a hauntingly realistic-looking skull with armor painted a unique shade of olive green. Mine also features this skull shield, which I believe came from a WWE Gladiator-themed accessory set that I painted up to go with his deadly look.😎

Anubis

Recommended music: Ray Stevens – King Tut [The original Steve Martin version is great too – DM]

For this #FourHorsemenFriday, we’re taking another look at the Figura Obscura Anubis!

This figure is technically not a Mythic Legion figure. It is just based on the ML Barbarian body. Officially known as the Figura Obscura, The Gods of Ancient Egypt, Anubis, this figure from Four Horsemen Studios was my top action figure pick of 2024.

The sudden announcement last spring of this dog-faced god with alternate heads showing different expressions, multiple options for feet and hands, and all the Egyptian accessories really sold the figure to me.

The neatest extra included for the display was probably the “Anubis Shrine,” a real-life artifact discovered in 1922 inside the tomb of Egyptian pharaoh Tutankhamen, also known as King Tut. After typing this, it does occur to me that I left the shrine out of the picture in favor of a NECA Mummy sarcophagus.😄

Forest Troll

Recommended music: The Cure – A Forest

For this #FourHorsemenFriday, we’re heading out to the forest with the Mythic Legions Forest Troll!

While trolls may be distantly related to goblins, ogres, and orcs, they definitely appear to be more deadly due to their massive size. This 12″ monster comes with an alternate head (a repaint of the ice troll head), as well as a fuzzy loincloth. He scales well with other 1/12 scale figures, thanks to Pippin for sticking around an extra day for this shot.😉

He officially comes with one accessory in the form of a ‘large club’ with a spiked ball on top. However, let’s call it what it is. That troll stuck a spiked boulder on top of a tree trunk!😄

While I am not letting my forest troll roam free, I will have other Mythic Legions for sale this weekend as I’ll be an exhibitor at the Retromania Collectibles Show May 17th & 18th in Aurora. So stop by table 79 (or one of the other hundred tables) for some fun stuff!

Skeleton Chimera

Recommended music: Metal Mother – Chimera Blues

For this #FourHorsemenFriday, we’ve got one last figure (for now) from the recent Mythic Legions Necronominus wave, it’s a Skeleton Chimera!

In Greek mythology, the chimera was a mythical creature that could breathe fire that was part lion, part goat, and part serpent. This particular chimera features two different skull heads, articulated limbs, and an additional snake head at the end of its tail.

The Skeleton Chimera was a pack-in with the beast master Beluath and looks just freaky enough to show up in Statue World and scare the bejesus out of the Heeler family. 😄

If you think that is an interesting toy mashup and live in Colorado, I’ll be an exhibitor at the Retromania Collectibles Show NEXT WEEKEND, May 17th & 18th in Aurora. So stop by table 79 (or one of the other hundred tables) for some fun stuff!

Also on this #FourHorsemenFriday from the archives, we’ve got the Mythic Legions Hagnon!

This hauntingly awesome skeleton also comes with a zombie head and a knight head. I initially slept on picking up this figure when it was first released, but eventually picked one up in a mystery box purchase.

A cool thing with the character’s species being a “ghost” is that he is cast in translucent glow-in-the-dark plastic! Fun stuff!
