Diamond Select Uruk-Hai Orc

Recommended music: The Warsaw Symphony Orchestra – The Uruk-Hai (Live)

On this #TolkienThursday, we’re still under attack by Orcs. Not just any orc, it’s the Diamond Select Uruk-Hai Orc!

This Uruk-Hai was released as part of series four in the DST Lord of the Rings toy line and was likely the first one I picked up. I don’t normally collect 7-inch scale Diamond Select figures as they are usually just a bit too big to fit in with a 1/12 scale display. This guy, however, was an exception as being a generic orc means he’ll look just fine mixed in with a ToyBiz orc army.

Besides the ugly (and accurate) Uruk Hai head seen here, there is also an alternate helmeted head and weapons option that I display with orcs from The Two Towers. He also comes with a pair of open hands, but I wouldn’t recommend them unless you don’t want your Uruk-Hai to be able to hold a cool shield and scimitar at the same time.😄

In addition to the multiple display options, this line also offers 16 points of articulation in their orcs, far more than the ToyBiz line from 20 years earlier.

From the Archives: Prologue Bilbo

Recommended music: Clime – Bilbo Baggins’ Lofi

One more post from the archives on this #TolkienThursday. Tonight, we’ve got this ToyBiz Prologue Bilbo!

While this ‘younger’ Bilbo Baggins is definitely not Martin Freeman, he is definitely discovering the One Ring in Gollum’s cave. The unique thing about this figure is the ring sculpted into the palm of the hand.

From the Archives: Prince Isildur

Recommended Music: Andi Grimsditch – Isildur’s Bane

One more #TolkienThursday post from the archives featuring the War of the Last Alliance against Sauron. Here is the ToyBiz Prince Isuldur!

“It was in this moment..when all hope had faded, that Isildur, son of the king, took up his father’s sword…

Sauron, the enemy of the Free Peoples of Middle Earth, was defeated…

The Ring passed to Isildur… who had this one chance to destroy evil forever.”

We’ll get back the One Ring at some point.😉

Uruk-Hai Warrior

Recommended music: Pianistic – Uruk-Hai Army March Theme

For this #TolkienThursday, we’re still under attack by Orcs. Not just any orcs, from the ToyBiz Fellowship of the Ring line, it’s the Uruk-Hai Warrior!

This Uruk-Hai “with Sword & Shield Battling Actions” was released in a two-pack with Gimli during the first two waves in the line. Like Lurtz, he features the White Hand of Saruman (or Isengard) in select areas to show their allegiance.

As always with this line the look of the figure is spot on to what you see on screen, even with a subtle thumb tab on the back to work some of the action features. This is one of my favorite orcs for army-building, and while I snuck in a DST shield for this shot, I probably need to change up the white hand paint or add custom helmets for more variety.

From the Archives: King Elendil

Recommended music: Howard Shore – One Ring to Rule Them All (It’s worth another listen).

One more #TolkienThursday post from the archives, we’ve got this ToyBiz King Elendil figure with “Sword-Slashing Action!”

While his sword and spirit rallies the troops, King Elendil ultimately gets taken out along with Gil-galad by the Dark Lord Sauron at the Siege of Barad-dûr, in the War of the Last Alliance in the late Second Age.

From the Archives: Prologue Elven Warrior

Recommended Music: Howard Shore – Prologue: One Ring to Rule Them All

Yes, it’s #TolkienThursday, and today we’ve got a handful of Prologue Elven Warriors!

These characters looked great on-screen in the opening of The Fellowship of the Ring and thankfully their figures were released by ToyBiz several times as they make for an excellent army-builder to take on your orc armies.

Lurtz

Recommended music: AudioMachine- My Way Out (with video of Lurtz)

On this #TolkienThursday, we’re still under attack by Orcs. From the ToyBiz Fellowship of the Ring line, we have the commander of the Uruk-Hai, it’s Lurtz!

Lurtz “with Bow Attack Action” was released in a two-pack with Boromir during the first two waves in the line. It was also the first Lord of the Rings action figure I owned. I thought the likeness was close enough to the hulking orc abomination we saw on screen.

The figure was smartly designed to hold a bow in one hand and a notched arrow in the other hand. When you press the button on the back it will pull back the bow and release the arrow for fun firing action.

From the Archives: Gil Galad

Recommended Music: Movie Magic Instrumental – The Prophecy

One more post on this #TolkienThursday as we’ve got this ToyBiz Gil Galad figure with “Spear Attack Action!”

He will also assist in taking on the forces of Sauron by … I’m not quite sure what he all gets credit for, so… yelling at him or something.😄

From the Archives: Elrond

Recommended music: City of Prague Philharmonic – The Prophecy

This #TolkienThursday, we’ve also got someone to help take on the forces of Sauron. It’s the ToyBiz Elrond with “Elven Sword Attack Action”!

This figure bears a good likeness of actor Hugo Weaving and displays well with other armored elves.

Aragorn with Arrow Launching Action

Recommended music: ABC – Poison Arrow

For this #TolkienThursday, we’re still under attack by Orcs. Thankfully, from the ToyBiz Fellowship of the Ring line, we have Aragorn with Arrow Launching Action!

Released in the third wave in the line, this is the only Aragorn figure to say “Aragorn” on the package, as the rest of his handful of FOTR figures were labeled with his pseudonym “Strider.” It’s a good-looking figure (when mint, mine has some heavy wear), complete with a muddy deco, 5 o’clock shadow, a good amount of accessories, and an arm moving action feature.

I think that is actually the strangest thing about the figure, as his “real arrow-launching action” doesn’t really come into play when you think of the character. I guess ToyBiz just couldn’t think of another name for Legolas’s action when put onto another character, but I’m guessing they couldn’t package a figure with “Orc Decapitating Action.” 😄

From the Archives: Sauron

One more post on this #TolkienThursday: we’re having a look at the ToyBiz 12″ Sauron!

He originally came in The Two Towers packaging with red light-up eyes and four lines of sinister dialogue from the Lord of the Rings trilogy. The sculpt is still impressive 20 years later and fits well battling against 1/12 scale figures. The voice is cool after a quick battery change. Fun figure!

Boromir

Recommended music: Cryptic Dawn – The Ballad of Boromir

On this #TolkienThursday, we’re still at The Argonath, under attack by Orcs. From the ToyBiz Fellowship of the Ring line, we have the valiant warrior Boromir with Battle Attack Action!

Released in a two-pack with Lurtz alongside the first two waves in the line, this was the first Lord of the Rings action figure I owned. I thought the likeness was spot-on to Sean Bean and still prefer this figure to the super poseable version released further on in the line. A large button on the figure’s back works well to turn the head and move the arms, and is hidden when wearing the large, included cape. Besides the well-executed figure design, he also comes with his sword, scabbard, shield, and the horn of Gondor for calling in reinforcements while protecting the Hobbits.
