From the Archives: Vinz Clortho Keymaster of Gozer (Louis Tully)

Recommended music: Elmer Bernstein – Who Brought the Dog

On this #WhateverWednesday from the archives, we’ve got the Mattel “Matty Collector” Vinz Clortho Keymaster of Gozer!

I’m not sure why this figure wasn’t packaged simply as ‘Louis Tully’ as it bears more than a passing likeness to a disheveled Rick Moranis, no need to make things complicated.

This figure came with a good amount of accessories including an alternate colander head, a terror dog statue overlay for the head, a pizza slice and a jar of popcorn. He doesn’t come with any coffee, but yes, he will have some. 😁

Ultimate Marty McFly ‘Audition’

Recommended music: Huey Lewis & The News – The Power Of Love

On this #WhateverWednesday, we’re going back in time with the NECA Back to the Future Ultimate Marty McFly!

In the film, Marty is auditioning with his band “The Pinheads” for the Battle of the Bands on October 25, 1985. When they begin to play a hard rock version of “The Power of Love”, the head judge (played by Huey Lewis) cuts them off after just a few notes, claiming they were “too darn loud”.

This ‘Audition’ version of Marty was actually the second one released with a denim jacket look, however, it is a worthy redo as the first version also had his non-removable vest on top, so this is accurate to Marty’s look at school. In addition to the new jacket, the figure comes with an extra head sculpt (both mostly look like Michael J. Fox), a (tiny) family photo, a flyer for the clock tower, a hand that is starting to disappear (even though this happens later in the film with a different outfit), Marty’s headphones and Walkman, and a new black guitar and picking hand accurate to this audition scene.

We’re just 12 weeks away from the 40th anniversary of Back to the Future! I figure it’s worth jumping in the Delorean to revisit some great toys from the film.

Fwush & Pepe on Nassau Vacation

Recommended music for this post: Sweet Rum – Nassau

For this #WhateverWednesday, we’re spending one more day with the Palisades Muppets Vacation Pepe, but mostly with Plunderlings Fwush!

Okay, one last reminder from me: You’ve got about eight weeks to get to Walt Disney World to see MuppetVision 3D at Disney’s Hollywood Studios one last time before the show closes forever on June 7, 2025.

After our trip departed sunny Florida, we spent a day on the open sea and a day at Ocean Cay. The following day, we arrived in Nassau! I was very excited to port in the Bahamas as several James Bond films shot scenes there. I had a limited amount of time to find some of the shooting locations and make it back to meet up with my family near the port.

I didn’t initially make time for photos with Fwush, but he did want to join in the fun of recreating some photos of scenes from Thunderball, which was in this exact spot 60 years ago this past month. Unfortunately, this shot didn’t really work out as Fwush found a crab friend (seen above), and films definitely weren’t shot in a vertical perspective in the 1960’s…

Now this one worked a bit better as Fwush did his best Sean Connery impression:

Feeling successful in capturing a bunch of shots of Bond filming locations, we took a stroll through Atlantis Paradise Island Resort and grabbed some more pics before catching a taxi back to the port.

That’s it for tonight, and for pictures of these two on the trip. I’m planning to put the Bond pictures in a video at some point, but I’m happy just to share these pictures for now. Cheers!🍹😎

From the Archives: The Scalawag

Recommended music: Weezer – Pork and Beans

Speaking of pirates and pigs, this #WhateverWednesday, we’ve got the Disney Parks Pirates of the Caribbean “The Scalawag.”

I forgot I shared this figure last year, as I covered the whole line again earlier this year. Trust me, the next time he comes around you’ll like the picture and write-up much more. Either way, this pirate dude is still not afraid of some mud getting in the way of a good time.🍺😄

That’s it for today, but I’ll have an extra post from the archives on Friday.

Fwush & Pepe on Vacation

Recommended music for this post: Weezer – Island in The Sun

On this #WhateverWednesday, we’re spending a little more time with the Palisades Muppets Vacation Pepe and today he’s joined by Plunderlings Fwush!

While Disney happened to give Pepe the character spotlight a couple of weeks ago for its #TheMuppets70 campaign, Pepe also turned up on my recent trip to Walt Disney World to see MuppetVision 3D at Disney’s Hollywood Studios one last time before the show closes forever on June 7, 2025. This is the last reminder from me: You’ve got about nine weeks.

Plunderlings Raider Fwush also joined in on the fun at Walt Disney World while leaving his pirate weapons at home. These Peter Pan topiaries at EPCOT were right in his wheelhouse.

We’ve now left Walt Disney World and stopped by Bonanza Golf and Gifts on Highway 192 just south of Disney property so Fwush could take a picture with this waterfall that is nearly as blue as he is.

Ahoy! We’ve now moved out to sea, and Fwush is enjoying the Pirates Cove aquapark on our cruise ship. Who knew pirates would be a great theme for water slides on the ocean?

When the boat stopped at Ocean Cay, MSC’s private island and reserve, Fwush found all these iguanas just chilling in the sun. They blend in well with the rocks, how many can you spot?

Yes, I could have zoomed in and cropped this picture a bit. However, Fwush on a beach-side palm tree looked fun from top to bottom.

Here is a tiny lizard, that (like the iguanas) was not interested in making friends with little blue creatures.

We skipped by this beach, but Fwush wanted a picture with the light house.

As did Pepe

Too many beaches, and not enough time for this shrimp. “I am not a shrimp–I am a king prawn, okay!” Okay, Pepe. See you next time!

From the Archives: Mer-Man animation cel

For this #WhateverWednesday, I wanted to showcase this Filmation stock cel. I believe it was featured twice in the Masters Of The Universe episode “Teela’s Quest.” I made a video to show just where it shows up.

Again, it seems this video works best with added music from the Instagram app. I downloaded the video back from the website and it was tiny. I guess I really should revisit this artwork with still images instead of video.

From the Archives: Mancake

Recommended music: Parry Gripp – Pancake Robot

Well, it’s #WhateverWednesday, so here is something different from the archives. It’s the Hasbro Fortnite Victory Royale Series Mancake!

I still don’t know much about #Fortnite, but this figure was too fun to pass up. In addition to a butter bandolier and a stack of syrup-covered flapjacks for a head, among other pancake-related accessories, Mancake comes with a cool cannon accessory that was instantly used for a different toy display that I’ll get to someday…

MuppetVision 3D & Vacation Pepe 2

Recommended music: Aerosmith – Sweet Emotion

On this #WhateverWednesday, we’re spending a little more time with the Palisades Muppets Vacation Pepe!

Yes, Disney gave the character spotlight to Pepe last week for its #TheMuppets70 campaign, but I have a few more pictures with Pepe from my recent trip to Walt Disney World to see MuppetVision 3D at Disney’s Hollywood Studios one last time before the show closes forever on June 7, 2025. Just another reminder that if you want to experience this attraction, you’ve got about 10 weeks.

Pepe sort of appears during the pre-show as it has been updated since the 1990s as he is shown on a parody poster of Tron, titled “Prawn.” After we watched the show, Pepe made one last trip to the statuary fountain in the Muppets Courtyard. We then headed over to the International Gateway at EPCOT, where Pepe quickly found the nearest fountain to take a dive into at the United Kingdom Pavilion.

More to come. 😎👍

From the Archives: Brer Rabbit & Other Model Sheets

For this #WhateverWednesday, I’m still thinking about Splash Mountain, so enjoy one last look at some Song of the South model sheets of Brer Rabbit, the Tar Baby and concepts for other animals to stand in for Uncle Remus on Splash Mountain that I acquired from the collection of Disney Legend Ralph Kent.

Also, some SOTS artwork from #BrittneyAnnArt that still hasn’t made it into a proper frame.

Again, it seems this video works best with added music from the Instagram app. I guess I really should revisit this artwork with still images instead of video.

MuppetVision 3D & Vacation Pepe

Recommended music: King Prawn – Day In Day Out

For this #WhateverWednesday, we’ve got the Palisades Muppets Vacation Pepe!

Even though Disney is giving Pepe the character spotlight this week for its #TheMuppets70 campaign, that’s just a coincidence, as I was already planning to share this picture this week. I recently had the chance to take a family trip to Florida and experience MuppetVision 3D at Disney’s Hollywood Studios one last time before the show closes forever on June 7, 2025.

Pepe the King Prawn does not actually appear in the 4D theme park attraction which debuted in 1991, as the character did not show up until the mid-1990s production, Muppets Tonight. Even though he wasn’t included in the show, he did enjoy popping up around water attractions throughout my recent trip, so I’ll have some more random pics further down the road. 😁

From the Archives: Mr. Bluebird

On the next #WhateverWednesday post, I shared this brief look at a Photostat Model Sheet of Mr. Bluebird from Song of the South.

This model sheet is part of a collection that I picked up from the estate of Disney Legend Ralph Kent, an expert on getting the right look for traditionally animated characters like Mickey Mouse.

It seems this was a video I finished in the Instagram app and it’s just more fun with the music attached. Perhaps I need to revisit this artwork with still images instead of video.

From the Archives: Dig Dug

For the first #WhateverWednesday post (where we take a look at a toy or something different from the other themed days), I shared some of the various ways to play Dig Dug in the home arcade.

Unfortunately, I let go of that stand-alone Dig Dug cabinet last year and switched out some of the other machines. Fortunately, I still have a few ways to play the game at home. Like a real arcade, the setup of the home arcade is never too permanent. I’m thankful for the space and the machines that I do have.

Also, it looks like I put this video together in the Instagram app and I don’t have a separate file, so I’ll just link to that.😄 Creating a video inside of an app and not on a desktop is definitely not for me.

Stitch as Captain Barbossa

Recommended music: Drowning Pool – 37 Stitches

On this #WhateverWednesday, we’ve got one last figure from a Disney Parks Pirates of the Caribbean toy line (for now). Unfortunately, it’s not “The Helmsman.” Instead, we have Stitch as Captain Barbossa!

The Disney Parks POTC toy line I’ve been sharing did include a Helmsman skeleton figure. However, I was never able to pick him up. Once the Pirates films became a major franchise and characters (like Captain Barbossa) started to be incorporated into the ride, the merchandise went downhill a bit. This is one of the sillier pieces of Pirates merchandise but fits right in with the Magic Kingdom version of Stitch showing up in random places around the park.

The action figure comes with a sword, hat, skull, and display stand which connects to identical stands for the other four characters in the line.

“Meega, nala kweesta” – Stitch (even when not a pirate)
