Methinks, this is the 500th post on dalestoys.com, so this #FourHorsemenFriday, let’s have a look at the Mythic Legions Mephitor!
Mephitor’s official Mythic Legions bio shows that he is an outcast spy and a goblin from the Swale region. Bordering on a fart joke, it also mentions how he can spray toxic gas at his enemies. I suppose that aligns with Bryophytus’s story from last week, as these two have frequently appeared together in stories for 40 years. If his appearance and abilities seem familiar, you may have figured out he is a tribute to Stinkor: “Evil Master of Odors”!
The figure, along with Bryophytus, was included in the Mythic Legions: All-Stars wave 4. These two, however, made their debut at the final Power-Con in Anaheim in 2021. Mephitor is the Four Horsemen’s “unofficial” nod to Stinkor and part of their ongoing line of Masters of the Universe tribute figures.
Mephitor’s name appears to be based on “mephitis,” a Latin term meaning a noxious or foul-smelling gas or vapor. Also, Mephitis mephitis is the creature commonly known as a striped skunk. 😄
His main head is a repainted version of the Thistlethorn head, repainted in a skunk-like design. He also comes with the head from the Goblin Legion Builder repainted in a solid black, which can just be a neat addition to your goblin legions. For accessories, he comes with a crossbow, shield, and sword – all in a dark blue color scheme that calls back to the shield from the vintage Stinkor action figure. Based on a goblin body, Mephitor does look a little short in your display, and he’s missing Stinkor’s signature patchouli scent, but he’s still an excellent homage to the original MOTU character.
