Are you ready for something different this #TurtleTuesday? Check out the NECA Toys Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Pirate Rocksteady!
This NECA Rocksteady figure has the same pixelated pirate look he had in the 1991 arcade game Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time and the SNES port, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time, which came out the next year. In the Skull and Crossbones level, the Turtles fight on a pirate ship, dodging cannonballs and loose planks.
In the arcade game, Tokka and Rahzar are the bosses, but in the SNES version, Bebop and Rocksteady take their place. The SNES game is known for its extra stages, a handful of new bosses, and different gameplay modes. Both versions are loved for their visuals, which really capture the style of the TMNT cartoon from the era.
NECA started their Turtles in Time figure line with a two-pack that includes this Rocksteady and a pirate-themed Bebop. He comes with a rapier sword, just like the one Rocksteady uses against the Turtles in the game. It’s a fun version, and now I just need a 16-bit pirate ship diorama to go with it. 😄
