For this #StarWarsSaturday, we’re still on the snowy plains of Hoth during The Empire Strikes Back. From the Hasbro Star Wars: The Saga Collection, it’s another Hoth Rebel Trooper!
Rebel troopers wear polarized snow goggles, insulated jackets, heavy boots, and white helmets to survive Hoth’s harsh weather. Their weapons are also modified so blasters and cannons keep working in the freezing cold.
During the Battle of Hoth, Rebel pilots and gunners get into their ships while ground troops get ready for the Imperial attack. Once the shield drops and the ion cannon fires, Wedge Antilles and his gunner, Wes Janson, use harpoons and tow cables to take down an AT-AT. In the chaos, Rebel Troopers scatter and retreat across the frozen tundra.
Hasbro released this unnamed Rebel Trooper in The Saga Collection in 2004. While I’ve previously covered a half dozen other troopers on Hoth, this was one of the last without modern articulation. With all just six joints being swivel cuts, the trooper comes off looking very pre-posed with a face that reminds me of Patrick Warburton. He comes with just a backpack and a blaster rifle. Unlike later versions, his goggles and helmet are part of the head sculpt, and even the side arm blaster is molded into the holster. If you want some variety for your Hoth trenches, pick up a few of these, but don’t expect many display options compared to Hoth Troopers released over the last 20 years.
The Empire Strikes Back turned 45 last May! I “figure” there will be a new Episode V figure to share here for the rest of the anniversary year. Happy 45 years and counting to TESB!
