It’s #WhateverWednesday and #WesterosWednesday! HBO’s Game of Thrones just turned 15, and since “we’re in the zombie room”, let’s take a look at another Funko Game of Thrones Legacy Collection White Walker!
In the first four seasons of Game of Thrones, the White Walkers are always a looming threat, very different from the political fights in Westeros. While the Great Houses battle for the Iron Throne, the Walkers bring a much bigger, supernatural danger from the Far North.
At first, most people see the White Walkers as just scary stories or old legends. They set the tone for the series right from the first episode’s opening, showing that the stakes are high. Since they rarely show up, they create a strong sense of dread.
When Season Four came out in 2014, Funko did something different from its usual Pop! vinyl figures. Gentle Giant made the Legacy Collection of 1/12 scale figures, and the White Walker #04 is still one of the best because of its great sculpt. Based on the creature from the Season 2 finale, it has detailed, craggy skin and textured clothing that often look better than what you see on newer figures at this size and price.
This glow-in-the-dark version of the White Walker figure first came out at San Diego Comic-Con in 2014, but later you could find it at Barnes & Noble stores. The sculpt is the same, but now it has a brighter, icy blue paint job. Like the original, some of these have known QC issues, but mine has held up fine. The glow effect isn’t the strongest, but it’s a fun variant for Funko to make, and the figure still comes with the spear accessory and full articulation.
I’ll share more Westeros toys next week. Happy 15th anniversary, Game of Thrones!
