Happy Father’s Day and #SomethingElseSunday! Today, we’re teaming up again with Eternian Epic Imagery for a new Masters of the Universe collaboration. This week’s theme is “Face Off.”
No, our theme this week has nothing to do with the 1997 film where an FBI agent played by John Travolta switched faces with a terrorist played by Nicolas Cage, since I’m not sure how that would fit into the world of Masters of the Universe toy photography.
Though I believe the term “face-off” comes from hockey, my idea for the collab theme also has nothing to do with sports; rather, it’s about two characters who seem like natural rivals. While Rio Blast seemed an odd choice for the vintage Mattel Masters of the Universe toyline in 1986, he actually fit right in as the franchise pulled character designs from many genres, including the Old West. Unfortunately, this limited the character’s stories to comics, since Eternia lacks an “Old West,” and Rio Blast did not appear in animation until the Revolution series in 2024.
I’ve attempted to remedy that by giving Rio Blast a Western enemy in the form of the meanest bull in Cow Town, Sheriff Terrorbull from Nacelle Toys C.O.W.-Boys of Moo Mesa line. Hopefully this showdown ends in Rio Blast’s favor.

MOTU Face Off
Known for its unique repaints, Masters of the Universe has created memorable characters over the years and continues adding new versions of existing figures. This has led kids to create rivalries between good and bad guys, as shown in its many incarnations.
Get ready to mount Stridor while your rival waits on Night Stalker in this week’s Epic Eternian Imagery Collab!
