Why wait for the weekend to talk about Star Wars? I don’t have any action figures out today since my collection is packed up and waiting for a new place to display. So, with the toys put away, the cards come out to play. 😄👍
Topps released the Rogue One: Mission Briefing trading card set in September 2016 to build excitement for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The main set includes 100 cards featuring stories from Episodes I to VI and the animated series of that era. It highlights major moments such as the creation and destruction of the Death Star.
There was also a ten-card expansion set with Rogue One characters, available only at the 2016 New York Comic Con. Today, I’ll talk about the next four cards, which tell more of the original story from 1977’s Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope.
Before the Battle of Yavin, Luke asks Han Solo to stay and fight for the Rebellion instead of just taking his reward and leaving. Luke tries to reach Han’s conscience, hoping he’ll fight for something bigger than himself. He wants to believe Han is more than just a mercenary. Han seems selfish here, which makes his return later in the battle a real surprise.
Luke is excited to join the Trench Run despite his complete lack of combat experience. He trusts his piloting skills, honed by shooting womp rats back on Tatooine, and is eager to help. He’s all in for the Rebel cause and willing to risk it all to destroy the Death Star. Red and Gold Squadrons jump into their X-wings and Y-wings. Against tough odds, they head out for a desperate, heroic attack to destroy the station before it can wipe out the Rebellion.
As they get close to the Death Star, Red Leader tells the squadron to “lock S-foils in attack position.” The fighters’ wings split into their classic X-shape, weapons are armed, and shields are set. Even if the name and move don’t mean much to most viewers, it definitely looked cool on screen.
The Mandalorian & Grogu movie is still showing in some local theaters until next week. If you haven’t seen it yet, try to catch it on the big screen before it’s gone. This might be your last chance, as it’s been out for about eight weeks now. Masters of the Universe is finishing its run at my local theaters today, but you can now stream it on Amazon Prime.
