All the new toy reveals at San Diego Comic Con this week have me excited to talk about toys and plan for new additions to my collection later this year. My action figures are still packed up, waiting for a new place to display. So, with the toys put away, the cards come out to play. 😄👍
Topps released the Rogue One: Mission Briefing trading card set in September 2016 to help build excitement for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The main set has 100 cards covering stories from Episodes I to VI and the animated series from that era, including the creation and destruction of the Death Star.
Back in 2016, a 192-card Hobby Box cost about $80 to $85 and came with a Patch Card plus another guaranteed hit, like an Autograph, Printing Plate, or Sketch card. There was also a more affordable $20 Blaster Box with 60 cards and a bonus patch card. Today, I want to share the next four cards, which continue the story from 1977’s Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope.
When the Rebel fleet comes out of hyperspace, X-wings and Y-wings move in on the huge, moon-sized battle station to start their desperate attack. Red and Gold Squadrons dive toward the surface, facing heavy fire as they make fast trench runs and try to line up their proton torpedoes on the target.
The Imperial leaders feel safe because they trust the Death Star’s strong surface defenses. Heavy turbolaser batteries and thick anti-starfighter networks cover the station, creating a wall of fire to stop Rebel fighters before they can finish their attack.
On Yavin 4, Rebel Command watches the mission, hoping someone can hit the small two-meter thermal exhaust port before the Death Star moves into position to destroy their base. The scene is edited so well that it’s easy to miss that Obi-Wan was originally supposed to be here with nothing to do, until they decided he would sacrifice himself on the Death Star.
The Mandalorian & Grogu movie is still playing in some local theaters until next week. If you haven’t seen it yet, try to catch it on the big screen before it leaves. This could be your last chance since it’s been out for over eight weeks. Masters of the Universe has finished its run at my local theaters, but it’s now the top movie streaming on Amazon Prime!
