All the new toy reveals at San Diego Comic Con last week have me excited to talk about toys and plan new additions to my collection later this year. In the meantime, my action figures are still packed up, waiting for a new place to display. So, with the toys put away, the cards come out to play. 😄👍
Topps released the Rogue One: Mission Briefing trading card set in September 2016 to help build excitement for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The main set has 100 cards covering stories from Episodes I to VI and the animated series from that era, including the creation and destruction of the Death Star.
I believe I’ve already covered the parallels and autographs from this set, so I might as well mention some other insert sets. Comic Strips was a 12-card set that came in 1:6 packs, basically four per hobby box. Despite the name, the cards featured artwork with two or three drawings of the same character, not really a “comic strip” as you might picture with a three-panel story about Garfield. 😄 Today, I want to share the next four cards, which continue the story from 1977’s Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope.
I may be getting ahead of myself for cards later in the set, but I’ve always liked this short scene with Grand Moff Tarkin and Chief Bast where he asks if he should have Tarkin’s shuttle prepared for evacuation, prompting Tarkin’s famous response: “Evacuate? In our moment of triumph? I think you overestimate their chances!”
Darth Vader’s TIE Advanced leads a pair of standard Imperial TIE fighters through open space, swooping in to eliminate the remaining Rebel pilots one by one. This includes Luke Skywalker inside his X-wing cockpit, who decides to push aside his mechanical targeting visor to trust entirely in the Force following some clever voice-over from the spirit of Obi-Wan.
Yes, Spider-Man is now playing in theaters, but you’ve also got some great summer movie options right at home. The Mandalorian & Grogu movie is no longer playing in local theaters but is now available to stream with Premium Video On Demand. Masters of the Universe has also finished its theatrical run but is still among the top movies streaming on Amazon Prime!
