Since my action figures are still packed away, waiting for a new display, the cards keep coming out to play.
Topps launched the Rogue One: Mission Briefing trading card set in September 2016 to build excitement for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The base set includes 100 cards that cover stories from Episodes I to VI and the animated series from that era, including the creation and destruction of the Death Star.
The Character Stickers insert set has 18 cards featuring peel-off stickers with characters and vehicles from Rogue One. They were easy to pull, appearing in about 1:6 hobby packs, and have a design similar to vintage Topps Star Wars stickers with a thick outline around the character.
Today, I’m showing the next four base cards, which are just more cards focusing on characters who first appeared in A New Hope.
More than a starship, the Millennium Falcon is a stubborn, temperamental veteran of the Galactic Civil War. Held together by mechanical grit and personality, she is unpredictable and prone to failure under pressure yet relentlessly loyal when her crew needs her most. Before the Solo plot twist retconned the ship’s signature personality, it was already special, as Han shares, “I’ve made a lot of special modifications myself.”
Luke Skywalker was granted the callsign Red 5 immediately after joining Red Squadron at the Rebel base on Yavin 4. He inherited the designation from pilot Pedrin Gaul, who was killed during the Battle of Scarif when the Rebel fleet tried to disable the Imperial shield generator.
Red Leader (Garven Dreis) commanded the X-wing assault on the Death Star. He coordinates the trench run attacks, orders Luke to back up the secondary team, and makes a heroic, desperate bombing attempt himself before being shot down by Darth Vader’s Advanced TIE Fighter.
Finally, we have Wedge Antilles, who served as Garven Dreis’s wingman during the Death Star attack. He protects Red Leader on his initial trench run and later flies cover for Luke Skywalker’s final run, taking heavy damage and being forced to disengage before the station is destroyed.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is still the number one film at the box office, and if you’re after a summer movie to watch at home, you might want to take another look at Masters of the Universe, which has returned to being the top movie on Amazon Prime after five weeks on the platform!
