R3-A2 on Vacation Part 13 (Mount Tamalpais)

Recommended music: Fleetwood Mac – Dreams

It’s #WhateverWednesday, so let’s take one last look at some photos from my California trip last year. This is the 13th and final entry in this series, and I’ve really enjoyed sharing memories of this dreamy experience with you.

That weekend, I took about 1,000 photos, and many of them featured my Hasbro Star Wars Legacy Collection R3-A2. I kept R3 in my pocket during my visit to the Rebel Force Radio live podcast and The Saga Museum fundraiser at Rancho Obi-Wan in Petaluma (https://ranchoobiwan.org/thesagamuseum/), but I brought the astromech along to plenty of other places, like an afternoon hike on Mount Tamalpais.

Mount Tamalpais rises to over 2,500 feet in Marin County and is a popular place for hiking, biking, and enjoying wide views of the San Francisco Bay Area and the nearby redwood canyons. If you’ve spent the past 20+ years in the Rocky Mountains, the height might not sound impressive at first, but it really feels impressive when you start right at sea level.

Just a few days ago, I was in the San Francisco metro area, so seeing the city from this new viewpoint was especially striking.

This park has all kinds of plants, including redwood forests and dwarf cypress trees. The moss-covered tree here just off the East Peak path might be a Coast Live Oak, but it could also be a different kind of tree. 😄

The park has well-known trails such as Steep Ravine and the East Peak summit, where you can enjoy views of the entire Bay Area.

A Star Wars fan who feels on top of the world.

A droid who also feels on top of the world.

This sign is displayed on the historic fire lookout tower at the East Peak summit of Mount Tamalpais, at an elevation of about 784 meters.

We don’t know what this ship was carrying, but I’m pretty sure it was headed for San Francisco.

Taking one last look at the city from above, I notice how tiny Alcatraz Island seems from this height.

As the sun began to set, we rounded everyone up and started making our way back to San Francisco.

Here’s a great view of the Golden Gate Bridge as fog starts to drift in.

As it got darker and the fog thickened, R3 wanted one last chance to ride in the front seat.

I had a great weekend hanging out with friends and other Star Wars fans. It was a lot of fun, and I’m already looking forward to going again. You should definitely try it too.
