Also, on this #TurtleTuesday, we’re looking at the NECA Toys Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Splinter!
In the 1990 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, Splinter is the emotional and spiritual center of the story. He’s not just their ninjutsu teacher; he’s the Turtles’ adoptive father and moral guide as they discover who they are in New York City.
Splinter was once Hamato Yoshi’s pet and is caught in a long-standing feud with Oroku Saki (Shredder). When the Foot Clan kidnaps him, it becomes a turning point. The Turtles must stop acting on impulse and work together to save their family.
While Shredder leads through fear and “fatherless” manipulation of wayward teens, Splinter leads through unconditional love and wisdom. In the film’s climax, he not only fights but uses Shredder’s own hatred against him, proving internal discipline is more powerful than raw aggression. Splinter’s presence transforms a “ninja movie” into a story about family and legacy.
“Death comes for us all, Oroku Saki, but something much worse comes for you. For when you die, it will be… without honor.” – Splinter
NECA first released this 1990 movie version of Splinter in a San Diego Comic-Con 2019 exclusive set called ‘The Capture of Splinter.’ The set also included Shredder, two Foot soldiers, and accessories like a cardboard crate, manacles for Splinter, and a weapons rack. The next year, the figure was repacked in a two-pack with Shredder and had a Gamestop exclusive solo release.
Any version of this figure you pick up will be well worth it. Splinter has a detailed sculpt, partially covered by a soft-goods belt and robe. He has 30 points of articulation to match his film poses. The figure also includes a canister lid, a single nunchaku, a slice of pizza, and a TCRI ooze container.
Overall, this figure is a great value for the price, and a must-have if you want a complete display from the 1990 TMNT movie.
