This #StarWarsSaturday, we’re checking out more trading cards from another part of the saga with Topps The Mandalorian: Journey of The Child!
In the second half of The Mandalorian Season 1, Grogu goes from being an adorable piece of cargo to a high-stakes target who finally reveals his powers.
In Chapters 5 and 6, Grogu mostly stays on the Razor Crest. On Tatooine, a rookie hunter briefly takes him hostage. Later, during a prison break, he hides from a mercenary droid and believes he destroyed it with his mind, though Din Djarin actually shot it.
Chapter 7 sees Mando returning to Nevarro, and a protective Grogu accidentally Force-chokes Cara Dune during a friendly arm-wrestling match. He makes up for it later in the episode by using his Force powers to heal a fatally poisoned Greef Karga, but the episode ends with him captured by Imperial Scout Troopers.
After a wild speeder-bike rescue by a babysitting IG-11, Chapter 8 sees Grogu pulling off his biggest move yet. He uses the Force to deflect a lethal stream of fire from an Incinerator Trooper back onto the enemy. Exhausted but safe, the season ends with The Armorer telling Din Djarin that because Grogu is a foundling, Din is now his father figure, solidifying their iconic “clan of two” dynamic.
The Topps The Mandalorian: Journey of The Child trading card set, released in April 2020, was likely the first Baby Yoda merchandise to feature images from the entire first season. Each box includes a 25-card base set, five illustrated cards, and two parallel cards. The set focuses on the bounty Mando protects, then called “The Child,” and highlights Baby Yoda’s adventures and memorable moments from the first season of the Disney+ series.
