Ecto Minis Slimer

Happy belated Ghostbusters Day! It’s #SomethingElseSunday, and we’re “ready to believe you” as we take a look at the Mattel Ghostbusters Ecto Minis Slimer!

In the 2016 Ghostbusters reboot, Slimer goes from being a minor nuisance to a chaotic force who drives the plot. Instead of just lurking in the basement, he is set loose by the main villain, Rowan, during a huge ghost breakout.

The Ghostbusters catch Slimer raiding a hot dog cart. When they try to stop him, he tricks them and steals the Ecto-1. Slimer then drives the car around the city with other ghosts, including a Lady Slimer.

Slimer played a big role in the film’s marketing, connecting old fans with the new reboot. Mattel made several Slimer figures, and he appeared in the LEGO Ghostbusters Ecto-1 & 2 set with Lady Slimer. He was also a playable character in the LEGO Dimensions expansion pack for the 2016 movie.

Slimer showed up in several food tie-ins, like the return of Hi-C’s popular Ecto Cooler juice boxes and as the face of Hostess “Key Lime Slime” Twinkies. While the movie changed his backstory, the merchandise still focused on Slimer as the franchise’s classic, slime-covered mascot.

Mattel released the Ghostbusters Ecto Minis line with the 2016 film. These were small, 1.5-inch figures sold in mystery blind bags and themed 3-packs. The collection included the 2016 team, other people, and different ghosts from the movie.

There was also a Walmart-exclusive “Classic” wave with characters from the original 1984 film. Out of 35 figures in the series, six were different versions of Slimer. The blind bag figure shown here is a smiling Slimer, sitting on a pool of slime that serves as a stand for the round, legless character.
