Rogue One: Mission Briefing Part 2

Recommended music: John Williams – Star Wars Main Title and Ambush on Coruscant

This #StarWarsSaturday, we’re looking ahead to the 10th anniversary of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story in December. Check out these trading cards from Topps Star Wars: Rogue One: Mission Briefing!

Topps released the Rogue One: Mission Briefing trading card set in September 2016 to get both longtime and new Star Wars fans excited for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The set features stories from Episodes I through VI, as well as animated series from that era of the timeline.

The set was first called Star Wars Road to Rogue One, which would have fit better with the Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens set from the year before and the later “Journey to…” sets for the other sequels. I’ll share more about the set later, but for now, I’m highlighting four cards each week. This week, I’m covering four cards that sum up the story of Episode II: Attack of the Clones.

Before he was killed, Master Sifo-Dyas secretly ordered a clone army for the Republic. The Sith took over the project after that. Count Dooku deleted Kamino from the Jedi archives and chose Jango Fett as the template for the clones. Obi-Wan Kenobi found the clones by accident, which forced the Jedi to use an army created by their enemies and set off the Clone Wars.

Supreme Chancellor Palpatine created a galaxy-wide crisis by setting up the Separatist threat. Worried about war, the Galactic Senate gave Palpatine emergency powers. He quickly used this new authority to bypass normal rules, legalize the clone army, and seize full control of the Republic, setting his path toward dictatorship.

During the Battle of Geonosis, Separatist leader Archduke Poggle the Lesser saw that they were about to lose. To keep their ultimate weapon safe, he gave Count Dooku the secret hologram plans for the Death Star. Dooku escaped the planet and delivered the plans to his master, Darth Sidious, on Coruscant.

With the Jedi overwhelmed on Geonosis, Yoda arrived with the newly authorized clone army, launching a massive ground assault against the Separatist droid forces. Although the Jedi rescued their own and forced a Separatist retreat, Palpatine’s grand trap had sprung. The Republic and the Jedi were now locked into a fabricated galaxy-wide conflict: The Clone Wars.

Yes, The Mandalorian & Grogu movie is still playing in theaters alongside Masters of the Universe (go see them if you haven’t already), but I’m already looking ahead to another Star Wars anniversary on the horizon. I’ll be back next Saturday to talk more Star Wars!
