The Will

It’s another #FunkoFriday! Today, let’s check out another Funko Pop! Vinyl Saga figure: The Will!

In Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples’ comic series Saga, The Will is a Freelancer, a highly skilled bounty hunter first hired by Wreath’s high command to track down the main characters, Marko and Alana, and kill their hybrid newborn, Hazel.

At first, The Will seems like the typical relentless villain chasing the heroes across the galaxy. But his character soon becomes more complex, offering a look into the moral gray areas of the ongoing war. He is fiercely loyal and principled. For example, he rescues a young sex-trafficked child named Sophie, showing a protective side that goes against his ruthless job.

The Will is almost always with his iconic companion, Lying Cat, a large feline who can sense when someone is lying. Their partnership shows his practical, skeptical attitude in a universe rife with propaganda and lies.

As the series progresses, The Will’s arc shifts from hunter to a broken survivor. After his former lover, The Stalk, is murdered, his grief and desire for revenge lead him into depression, poor health, and substance abuse. His journey mirrors Marko and Alana’s struggles, showing how trauma and violence can affect even the strongest individuals.

In the end, The Will serves as a tragic contrast in Saga. He shows the high personal costs of the galactic war and makes readers question what it means to be a hero or a villain, as his loyalties and reasons for fighting keep changing in a chaotic universe.

Image Comics and creators Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples have teamed up with different companies to make official Saga merchandise, including Funko. In 2018, Funko released more than a dozen Pop! Vinyl Saga figures. The last one, Comics Series No. 10, shows The Will in his white-and-teal look, as shown here.

The figure shows off the bounty hunter’s comic-book style, with details like his buzzed hair and angled eyebrows that give him a serious look, even though he has no mouth. The colors are well done, and he wears his signature cape and carries his classic retractable lance. For completionists, there is a rarer limited-edition chase figure with blood-splatter effects that fit the character. Overall, it’s a great piece for Saga fans and a perfect way to finish your display.

I wish I could say we’ve got more Funko coming your way next Friday, but it will be something completely different. Stay tuned!
