This 4th of July, let’s check out some fun red, white, and blue figures!
I snapped this photo a few years ago on the Fourth of July to show off some action figures that wear their patriotism and love for America on their sleeve. Now, the fictional characters themselves depicted here definitely have differing sets of morals, but all can be seen displaying the stars and stripes.
Bringing these characters together makes for a tense, overly patriotic, and dysfunctional gathering. The group features a star-spangled, avian hero who embodies raw freedom on the battlefield, a cynical government agent who treats the American Dream as a dark joke, someone who truly believes in American freedom, a strict, pompous Muppet focused on wholesome American values, and a fragile, self-absorbed superhero shaped by corporate interests.
Along with the Mythic Legions Eagalus [see last year’s 4th of July blog post], you can spot some American pride on figures like the Mattel DC Watchmen The Comedian, Hasbro Marvel Legends Captain America, Palisades Toys Muppets Sam Eagle, and NECA Toys The Boys Ultimate Homelander.
I can’t recall the name of this train-themed pinball table, but I do remember it made the perfect US flag backdrop for Sam Eagle.
You might have noticed this post doesn’t match the usual daily theme like my last 1000+ toy posts. There’s a good reason for that, and I’ll explain more tomorrow. For now, have a fun and safe day, and don’t forget your sunscreen.
Happy 4th of July!
