Recommended music: Edvard Grieg – In the Hall of the Mountain King (performed by the LSO)
It’s #FourHorsemenFriday, and since my action figures are still packed, awaiting a new display, archive posts will come into play. After 1100+ posts on the blog, we’ll have to revisit some older stuff for now.
I still believe the song I picked in my original post works for Mythic Legions King No’glin, but I might have missed another track that I really love listening to while driving. It could fit the character just as well.
Edvard Grieg wrote “In the Hall of the Mountain King” in 1875 for Henrik Ibsen’s play Peer Gynt. The music tells the story of Peer sneaking into the Troll King’s underground lair. It’s known for its simple, repeating theme that gets faster and louder as it goes. It starts with quiet, sneaky bassoons and cellos, then builds up as the whole orchestra joins in, creating a wild, chaotic scene as trolls chase Peer into the darkness.
Even though the play was written almost a hundred years before Hasbro started calling toys “action figures,” and it would be another five or six decades before Four Horsemen Studios made Mythic Legions, this might be the perfect theme for No’glin. It begins with sneaky, underground woodwinds and then builds into wild, goblin-like chaos for the crescendo.
