Robin the Frog (Reblog)

Recommended music: Robin the Frog – Sir Robin the Brave

It’s #SomethingElseSunday. Since my action figures are still packed, waiting for a new display, archive posts will come into play, and we’ll revisit some old toys for now.

The first time I wrote about Palisades Toys Robin, I shared a clip of him singing “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” from The Muppet Show. This time, I wanted to choose something from outside the show that still suits Kermit’s nephew. I considered using “Bless Us All” from The Muppet Christmas Carol, but I plan to use that track for something else later this year.

“Sir Robin the Brave” from the 1971 television special The Frog Prince is the best musical match for the Robin the Frog figure because it shows the character’s original connection to high fantasy and adventure. Before Robin joined The Muppet Show as Kermit’s nephew, he first appeared in this fairy-tale special as a brave, storybook hero who faces a wicked witch (and Sweetums debuts here as well).

The song shows Robin’s adventurous side. Unlike his later group songs on The Muppet Show, “Sir Robin the Brave” shows him as the main character as a small frog on a big quest, and the clip also lets me share some of the deeper history of Jim Henson’s early TV specials.
