‘Tales From Space’ Marty McFly (Reblog)

Recommended music: Louis & Bebe Barron – Forbidden Planet: Main Titles (Overture)

It’s #WhateverWednesday, and since my action figures are still packed and waiting for a new display, I’ll dig into the archives and keep revisiting some old toys for now.

When I first shared this “Darth Vader from the Planet Vulcan” Marty from NECA’s Back to the Future line, I used the real Eddie Van Halen song from the movie (which is tough to find outside the film, including on any official BTTF soundtrack). But I also came across another track, not in the movie, that works well with this figure.

Louis and Bebe Barron’s “Main Titles (Overture)” from the 1956 movie Forbidden Planet fits the “Tales from Space” Marty figure really well. Instead of using a regular orchestra, the Barrons made the whole score with electronic circuits and audio generators. That gives the music a strange, synthetic feel, just like the retro-futuristic props Marty uses in this scene.

The music feels less like a typical Hollywood film and more like a broken spaceship or some high-tech gadget meant to mess with George McFly’s mind. In the end, this unique electronic soundtrack brings the wild energy of Marty’s time-traveling prank to life in my BTTF display.
