Happy #TolkienThursday! Today, we’re heading to Helm’s Deep from The Two Towers to take a look at another custom ToyBiz Lord of the Rings Berserker Uruk-Hai!
The Berserker Uruk-hai are Saruman’s strongest soldiers. They show how nature can be shaped for battle. Saruman removed their instinct for self-preservation, turning them into living weapons. Picked for their size and aggression, these warriors carried the White Hand and wore no armor so they could move quickly and intimidate their enemies.
These Berserkers were the first to climb the ladders, using wild and fearless attacks to break the enemy’s spirit. Most importantly, one of them carried the torch that lit the explosion at the Deeping Wall. This broke through Helm’s Deep’s defenses and proved that a single determined fighter could bring down even the strongest walls.
ToyBiz first released the Berserker Uruk-hai figure with Sword-Swinging Attack Action in wave five of the single half-moon cards from The Two Towers. Later, it was repacked for the second wave of TTT carded figures. ToyBiz also included him in a two-pack with an Elven Archer and in a UK exclusive with Frodo, even though these characters are never together in the film. Another Berserker Uruk figure with a bomb was planned for the fourth wave of Epic Trilogy figures, but the ToyBiz line was canceled before it was released.
Since the Berserker Uruk-hai has no armor and is covered with Saruman’s white hand, you might not think it’s the best choice for a custom figure. Still, I did a simple repaint of this one about 15 years ago. It wasn’t a complicated custom, but it added some variety to my Uruk-hai army in the Helm’s Deep display. Also, removing the white hands from the body means Aragorn might not spot him so easily during a dark, rainy night battle at Helm’s Deep. 😄
