Happy #TolkienThursday! Today, we’re outside Helm’s Deep during The Two Towers, ready to take a look at another Diamond Select Lord of the Rings Uruk-Hai!
At the Battle of Helm’s Deep, Saruman used the Uruk-hai as his elite shock troops, aiming to wipe out the Kingdom of Rohan. These Orcs were stronger and tougher than ordinary ones, and they could march long distances in sunlight without tiring.
During the siege, the Uruk-hai tried to overwhelm the Hornburg through disciplined brutality and specialized equipment. While they used massive ladders and ballistae, their greatest success was breaching the Deeping Wall with the explosive fire from Orthanc. This forced the defenders to fall back into the inner keep and nearly secured Isengard a total victory. However, the Uruk-hai were ultimately defeated at Helm’s Deep when Gandalf’s reinforcements unexpectedly arrived. This defeat caused the Uruks to flee in panic into the forest, where the vengeful Huorns waited… but we’re getting a little ahead of ourselves in the story.😉
This Uruk-Hai came out in the fourth wave of the DST Lord of the Rings toy line, and it was probably the first one I bought. I usually skip 7-inch Diamond Select figures since they’re too big for a 1/12-scale display, but I made an exception for this one. Since he’s a generic orc, he fits right in with a ToyBiz orc army.
Along with the helmeted head and long pike shown here, you also get an unmasked head, a scimitar, and a shield, so you can change up the character’s look. These orcs have 16 points of articulation, which is a lot more than the ToyBiz figures had 20+ years ago. A welcome addition to the Helm’s Deep display.
