Rogue One: Mission Briefing Part 1

This #StarWarsSaturday, we’re running behind, but we’re already getting ready for the 10th anniversary of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story coming up in December. Check out these trading cards from Topps Star Wars: Rogue One: Mission Briefing!

Topps launched the Rogue One: Mission Briefing trading card set to help both longtime and new Star Wars fans get ready for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The first cards came out in September 2016, with two included in issue #168 of Star Wars Insider magazine.

This set features a classic retro design, similar to the Return of the Jedi trading cards from 1983, and uses heritage-style card stock. It covers the stories from Star Wars Episodes I through VI and includes a few animated series from that era of the Star Wars timeline.

I’ll talk about more details of the set later, but for now, I’ll focus on four cards each week. The 110-card set kicks off with just three cards that sum up the story of Episode I: The Phantom Menace.

As Darth Sidious, Palpatine told the Trade Federation to invade his home planet, Naboo. He used the crisis to show the corruption in the Galactic Senate and arranged a vote of no confidence that removed Chancellor Valorum. With public support, Palpatine was elected the new Supreme Chancellor.

After a millennium of hiding, the Sith revealed their survival with Darth Maul attacking the Jedi on Tatooine and Naboo. Operating under the Rule of Two, Darth Sidious used this sudden emergence to spread fear, distract the Jedi Order, and secretly position himself to conquer the galaxy from within.

When Palpatine found out that young Anakin Skywalker had a very high Midi-chlorian count, he saw the boy’s huge potential. He quietly started guiding Anakin, planning to replace Darth Maul and gain a powerful ally to help the Sith rise again.

Next, the cards move to the story of Episode II: Attack of the Clones. On Tatooine, Anakin Skywalker goes through deep emotional pain. He can’t save his mother, Shmi, from the Tusken Raiders, and her death in his arms triggers an overwhelming wave of grief and rage, driving him to slaughter the entire camp and taking his first big step toward the dark side.

Yes, The Mandalorian & Grogu movie is now playing in theaters (go see it if you haven’t already), but I’m already looking ahead to another Star Wars anniversary on the horizon. I’ll be back next Saturday to talk more Star Wars!
